new cover leaks

I bought a new taylor made cover after reading good reviews on how well it kept boats dry. Well after the first rain storm (heavey rain) are boat was wet all over in side. The cover had water beads on the inside just like the out side did. Is this a fluke ? it did rain hard. My old fact bow and **** pit cover seem to do a better job but always got water in between the snaps and corner of wind shield. The water would allway's find its way to the bilge while most of the boat would stay dry. New cover did not fill the bilge area thow.

Maybe some photos and contact the company you bought it from. See what they say.

Re: new cover leaks

I had a similar experience with a Carver cover I bought here on iboats. Every time it rained it would soak the inside of my new boat.
But Carver stepped up and made it right by giving me another cover which is 100% waterproof.
Contact the company and tell them what's happening. Maybe it wasn't treated at the factory?

If your cover is not sunbrella it could very well do this. I would recommend getting some scotch gard and putting a few coats on it. This should slow it down if not stop the issue. You will need to redo it about every year to every other.

I forgot to wright with taylor cover it was hot shot. I did buy it here but I think you send it back to taylor. I know the scotch guard works good but I don't think they will take it back if I use it.

I would always give the manufacture/seller a chance to make things right. Can't hurt.

Re: new cover leaks

as of right now I boats will not take cover back . The cover was not even on my boat for 24 hrs. As far as im concerned I wasted over $300. for a cover that leaks. Like 99% of us boat owners buy covers to water keep out.

Re: new cover leaks

Sorry about that but covers like sunbrella which don't leak cost quite a bit more then the ones we find on websites. This doesn't make the pill your taking any easier but we never get what we pay for these days, but we do get a bit more the more we pay.

Waterproof covers aren't waterproof really. They need to be supported so the water runs off. If there was pooling on the cover because of improper support, then that's the problem.

If that was NOT the case, contact Taylor, not IBoats.

I had a similar problem and the manufacturer took care of it.

Re: new cover leaks

I had a custom cover made for my boat, and it has lasted 10 years. It is actually time for another one. Best $500 I ever spent. The material is like a fabric on the inside and plastic on the outside. It does not shrink like the vinyl covers that came with the boat.

I had support polls holding cover. The first call was made to taylor, they told us to call Iboats . We called iboat 2nd. I think for now on I will only buy from local dealers.

Carver is great about building quality products and standing behind them 100%. Sadly not every manufacturer is the same :-\

I agree. They stood behind their cover 100%. And they actually posted in my thread and offered to replace it.
But $300 isn't a very expensive cover, but if it's advertised as waterproof it should be. I think mine was twice that. I will buy nothing but Sunbrella from now on.
Expensive? Yes, but it really works.
I'm kind of surprised that Tayor offers no support. Taylor make covers and tops that go on brand new boats.

I dont mean to sound harsh but their is no substitute for a custom made cover out of sumbrella. You can putz around with cheep covers and in the end your boat suffers. Yes it is expensive but think of it as a garage for your boat that will last 10 to 15 years and divide the cost according. Just be glad you dont need one for a pontoon.

Doesn't have to be custom made. Everyone and their pet monkey sells Sunbrella boat covers starting around $300 - including iBoats. I'm not sure why Sunbrella gets this revered reputation, doesn't work any better than Sharkskin Supreme or other higher quality fabrics.

I've had three covers so far. The only one that didn't leak was the Sunbrella Supreme Plus that I am using now. I'm not going into what makes they were but they were not cheap covers. Each was around $600.
The Sunbrella is even more expensive but it works and my boat is dry.

Re: new cover leaks

OK, here's my take on this thread. You bought a 'waterproof' cover and it lets in water! It is therefore NOT doing what it supposed to do.
You contacted the Manufacturer (TaylorMade) who advised you to contact the Seller (IBoats) who wouldn't accept it as a Return. They then told you to contact the Manufacturer (TaylorMade). That is clearly the Seller avoiding their legal responsibility for supplying a faulty product. I would also suspect that as it is a NEW item there is a warranty coverage and that should tell you what you should do under that coverage. But the FIRST response IS and ALWAYS should be back to the SELLER (IBoats).
Now that this items sales is on the IBoats Forum you need to go back to them for either a refund or replacement. You need to be firm with them on this and explain that you are a member of the IBoats Forum also and this sale is now being discussed along with their customer service attitude. If you do not get satisfaction from the Customer Service Person, move up the food chain and demand to speak to a Supervisor. You should get satisfaction.
There was a recent thread (last week I think) about a member who bought some items from IBoats, didn't seem to be getting anywhere and resorted to starting a thread about the issue and how IBoats was or was not dealing with it. Their customer Service Specialist got back quick sticks and sorted it out.
No respectable company wants to sell faulty or not as described merchandise and then walk away. They go out business that way. IBoats and Taylor are NOT in that category IMHO.
Contact them back again Pronto.
Finally, do NOT start coating the cover with anything or doing anything to the cover that may be suggested in this thread. That will simply invalidate any warranty and negate any claim you may have on a refund/replacement. This is still a new item.
Good Luck.
