Re: New Engine Design

I once saw a technical write-up on this type of engine. It basically works on the same principle as the newer A/C compressors. Supposed to produce wicked power very efficiently.

Too bad they guy seemed a little bit like a snake oil salesmen.

I went to Copeland Schroll compressor school a couple of months ago. The instructor mentioned that several companies were planning on using that type of technology to turn it into an engine. Sounds like as if it may be the thing of the future, but who knows?

Re: New Engine Design

Can anybody think of the wicked speeds motorcycles will be able to run with 500 horses in an engine the size of a coffee can?

Or better yet, lets mount this thing to the prop and make a bass boat that will do 150mph!

500 HP weighing in at 25lbs. Not a lot of waste having to move the engine too.

Re: New Engine Design

If it is a viable engine & produces as claimed, why hasn't one of the BIG AUTO companies bought the technology & marketed it?.....
If it can produce half of what they are claiming, that auto company would kisk the crap out of the competition.....;)
I'd like to see it run with a load.....:)

 It's the end of big oil.......................

What kind of material's could contain that much energy and heat and only weigh 25 lbs??

Re: New Engine Design

I am very sceptical, but I have sent the video and web address to our Technology Director and another Senior Propeller-head. The second guy used to be the President of SAE and VP of engine devlopment at Cummins. He has a very open mind and is working on another weird engine technology right now so he'll give me a dependable and educated answer . . . The website has some better pics etc.

Two words come to mind: Air Bags.

Eaton Corp had the patent on them and the political and public will was strong but as with the Tucker automobile, the Big Four auto makers delayed, litigated, and played "hide the ball" until the patents had run out. Why pay up front for something when waiting it out will get it for a cheaper price?

No sale!.......
Put it in a truck or car & show me it works......;)
Not on some bench with 4 cylinders working.......
The Wrights were dismissed by the general public, until well after their first demonstation........
Show that it works & they will come....
& buy!.......;)
If they will line up for Apple phones, what do you think will happen with 150 mpg......
No one needs airbags to travel anywhere, btw......
It was nanny Gubmint & the insurance industry that foisted that one on the public.....:)

Re: New Engine Design

Whether his engine will work is yet to be determined, but I think the idea is definitely good.

Look at the Wankel engine. A total offshoot from the recip engine, and it produces gobs of power for it's small size, just as Mr. Wankel claimed it would.

Case in point, the jet engine. The actual jet engine had been developed in prototype form before WW2 even started. However, since aircraft designers were comfortable and knowledgeable with piston engines, that's what they continued to build. Once we saw that the Germans had a formidable plane powered by this new piston free powerplant we were forced to adopt to the new design. Who knows if this is the start of a new evolution in car engines?

I agree - don't tell me, show me.

Question: Does this make me a skeptic or a realist?

Answer: It makes no difference. If this could be done it would be done.

Re: New Engine Design

Man that is really complicated. There is some stopping and starting, so it is similar to a recipricating engine.

I hope something like this takes off and works.

But they need to loose to kook who is promoting it. Dont mention biofuel and all that other crap. It distracts from the true message.

Re: New Engine Design

Looks like a load of crap to me. What does he mean the motor is doing work when it was turning over with the compressed air. It wasn't doing any work, the air compressor was doing it all. If it's such a miracle motor, why didn't he just hook one up to a load and run it?
