The story continues. After adjusting the valves in my motor and finally got the boat in great condition (1987 Marlin Rally 4.3l V6) we took the boat in the water and I felt the improvement on power. Idle was held on specs and we were just happy to be out in the water. All of the sudden, which I found out later a valve retainer broke and bye bye engine! LOL the great deal I got now it is just a deal.

I am in the process of buying a new engine. I don’t want to deal with a used engine any more. I want to turn the key and know that I will come back to launch with confidence.

I found this company in Texas, MABBCO who seem to be a legit business. They sell the 4.3l engine all ready set up for a swap in $1200.00 + 275 shipping. Warranty terms seem to be fair.

Any thoughts, opinions, stories, experience with this company and on this topic would be appreciated.

It is the only thing is that their warranty terms are a bit out my league. I will be installing the motor and that right there eliminates the warranty.

even brand new motors fail..... they are man-made, they will fail

for $1200 you are buying a re-man

all warranties stop with you installing the motor. to keep the warranty, you need the motor installed by a licensed representative. it has to do with liability insurance, etc. in the event there is a warranty claim

you can buy a motor anywhere, re-mans in the $1500-$2200 range

new long blocks in the $3000 range

used take-out motors in the $300 range

I would work with your local engine machine shop.

That kind of sucks. I heard of some cases where the reman engine had the cylinder walls scratched due to wrong installation and because the guy didn’t use a certified installer the warranty was void. He had to absorb the shipping cost and had a hard time with the warranty.

I guess I’m going to have to work with the local machine shop and see what ideas they have.

Thanks for the advice
