only way i can think of on a high running rpm is a dry sump like race cars use, dont think in a normal boat eninge that a dry sump would be a benefit

Spoke to the guy at the motor shop today, he insists the pump is the right one and he has built many marine engines, builds 3 to four weekly. He wants me to take in down there and he will check it manually, before I do so Im going to hook up the gaffrig gauge that came with the sender Im using.

Hooked up the gaffrig gauge now oil pressure is at 40psi at idle and doubles at 3k. I was not in the water though, just running it on the trailer. is that normal?

the conditions you are discribing are not normal and i would take it back and give him a chance to fix it.dont do anything else till after he looks at it.only fair to yourself and him.if you start messing with it hed be right to tell you to take a walk.id want a chance to fix my mistakes.so would you take it back to him.good luck.

For a fresh engine, that is on the high side but is reasonable....

how long did you let it run, was it at running temp, i know my show car will have 75 lbs at 2800 rpm and 55 at idle at 900 rpm cold. at running temp it runs 48 lbs hot at 2800 rpm and 25 lbs at 900 rpm when at running temp, let it run until it gets to full temp, and check after break in it will loose some everything is tight and new now.

yes, I would say from the first start it only has 2 hours on it now. Running at normal temp 160 on closed cooled, maintains 40psi on the dot at idle. Doubles anything higher than 3k. I will be going out saturday night on a fishing trip, I will be doing frequent bilge checks
