Went out on the boat today, while i was launching there was a guy and his 2 kids watching me. I talked to them for a minute and then asked if they would like to go out on the river,, the boy almost jumped in as i finished the sentence. Long ...story short, took 3 total strangers out today and had a really fun time....

Good story. Who knows what long-term effect it will have on the kids. There are a lot of worse places than a boat they could be in the future.

Re: new friends at the boat launch

Did that 5 years ago with a family of 4 that were at our marina just watching all the boats going in and out at the marina and ramp. Dad was explaining a few things about boats to the 2 children (then 7 and 10 years old) I got chatting to them and found them to be what appeared to be a really nice family. Offered to take them for a spin and the children's faces just lit right up. We (my family) shared the entire day with them and the boat only came back to the dock for a change of passengers and gas. Turns out that Mom and dad had both lost their jobs a few months previous and both worked at the same place. They had both been trying desperately to find employment but had not managed to at that time. We could tell they felt really guilty sharing our boat and food and the entire family were extremely respectful of our things the whole day.
I got them both a job working for the corporation I work for within a few weeks and they are both still there and have themselves back on their feet ever since. Turns out they were at that time close to losing their house etc and were just enjoying the area we live in as much as possible before they had to find somewhere else. We are still firm friends with the family and they are doing really well now.
So glad I met them. It made my family realise just how fortunate we really are.

There may be many of us on this forum but we are still few among the population in general. I think it's awesome that you shared you time and vessel with others, especially the kids. Kudos to you Capt. ;)

Very inspiring thread. Not just what bifflefan and kenmyfam did, but also refreshing to read not one negative post from a negative perspective of "you didn;t know these people, they may have been bad..." or some such thing.
Yes, there still are some good folk out there... and in here on IBoats Forum.
