LOL...I have an advantage there. At 5'8" and 145#

You have the advantage in the bilge. I see me having the advantage when tossing you off of the dock into the drink in St. Augustine!!:D

All kidding aside....I'm gonna do it...

The bossman called today. He told me to get off his boat. NOW. He said I need a holliday off.... from spending his money. What a great guy I have. We are headed out for a ride in the ladies boat today and take his for a spin on Saturday.

Enjoy your day off with your woman. It certainly sounds like it's well deserved.

Get some video of the Saturday trip if you can. Should be neat. Maybe just cruising out of the marina.

We had a good trip back to the marina, Fireman. My mate has her 14yr old son here for the hollidays and I'll get some shots of him piloting this big thing. He tells his friends he has his "own" captain. He makes me proud. Here is a photo of him at the helm a couple years ago on a 35' Sportfish. He shows no fear or intimidation.

The new couch was installed yesterday. Not as nice as I expected, but still better than it was. I had to do some framework on it before the upholstery was installed

I bet you do, Fireman. :) Believe it or not, that photo was taken about 6 months after I was released from a nursing home after a 2 year battle with brain cancer and lymphoma. As a survivor, everyday is a blessing to me. I never thought I would be back doing the things I used to do.

Obviously I had no idea...You, my friend, are truly double tough in every sense of the word. Congratulations (if that's the appropriate response) on your recovery. You and Mrs. Fireman will have much to talk about. Her mother battled 10 years with Breast/bone/organ cancer before finally losing her battle in 2006.

Can't wait for June...

P.S. I never would have left that couch go out of my shop looking like that...here are a few examples of my idea of upholstery:

I put the ride off till Tuesday. I'll take some photos and maybe a video. I'm sure the young man will want to drive.

I have this scratch on the brightwork that I would like to touch up. We have no idea what was used before to seal it. What would one do to prep this area and what should I use to seal it? I'm not much of a woodworker.

Thanks.

I'm sorry myself and Mrs. Fireman have this in common. I lost both of my parents to cancer.

The couch looks much better now that some adjustment was done to her. I wish you would have done the work. You do nice work.

Re: New Job, 501 Constellation, Good and Bad.

Probably 1/64", Greg, and not thru to the wood. Whatever was used was applied by many coats or a thick one.

I would tape off the area and lightly sand with either 220 or 320 grit paper just until smooth to touch. Then recoat with several layers of a good UV Marine Urathane/varnish. You can cut the urathane down 10% or so with it's recommended thinner to help in applying thin coats and it should level out well. If you need to you could give it a final sanding with 400 or 600 grit before the final coat of varnish to help it blend in with the surrounding finish better. When applying, lightly feather in the brush strokes from the surrounding areas to help it blend in better and not leave a hard edge.

I have this old TV not being used, we now have a flat screen. I am contiplating on an ambiance fireplace or a fish aquarium in it's place. Any other suggestions in what to install? And no, not a liquor cabinet, already have one. :)

I would definitely go with the ambient fireplace - it'll keep you feel nice and cozy on those cooler nights at sea!!

Thanks for your response, Greg. I will take your recommendation and go with it.:) Depending on how well I do with it will dictate whether I post a finished photo or not.

I think your right, Joe. The bossman will be down in a week or so and in the meantime I'll be looking for a fireplace that will fit. At this point he has apporved every idea I've had....so far. It is nice having other opinions from you guys to make my decisions. Thanks for your imput!

Re: New Job, 501 Constellation, Good and Bad.

Try a "sanding sponge" or use steel wool to conform to the contours and shape of the rail. If you use steel wool, start with a medium grade and transition down to fine (000). If you're really careful not to expose the wood, the color of the stain will remain intact. There will be no difference in coloration. You had mentioned that the scratches don't go through to the wood.

Re: New Job, 501 Constellation, Good and Bad.

You just can't get good free help anymore these days...:)

Free?.....Oh yeh, guess I better not complain then.

The A/C strainer was becoming clogged almost daily. I took a dive and the thru hull strainer was almost totally clogged. Winds blowing almost 20mph today (my sore head from beating it on the hull) but I managed to move the boat to some deeper water in hopes to avoid future problems. Here she sits.
