The waste vents. I would think if they are in good working order, this setup would be ok. 3 out of 4 are leaking.

Hey, I am just throwing out ideas...like pasta...hoping something sticks.

To me, I can see how they would work okay in this orientation but the fact that they leak means some water/waste is collecting in them which is troubling. If it wasn't too difficult I would try to un-mount them, possibly raise them some and orient them vertically. That would eliminate the leakage while ensuring proper waterline height. From the pics it looks like there is a little room under the sole. Maybe attached them to the sole supports. I know that working with that white sanitation hose is like wrestling an octopus so I understand if you feel it?s not worth the effort.

Ideas are great, nice to have your opinions. :)

How correct you are about the sanitation hose! I think I may just install new valves at this time and see how she goes. The more I dig, the more I find.

Thanks, Greg

Re: New Job, 501 Constellation, Good and Bad.

I stumbled upun my water leak. Somebody wrapped a crimped "T" fitting with some tape. I can barely get my hands in there. I guess I'm going to have to try fitting a Quest "T" in there somehow.

Headaches are mounting.

Well anytime I messed with the stuff it is somewhat stiff and has a big bend radius. I saw somewhere recently that they make a highly flexible version of the hose now so maybe that is what you want to use. Sounds like a plan. Keep us posted.

Re: New Job, 501 Constellation, Good and Bad.

I installed new valves in the vent loops and all appears to be well at this time. I'll keep an eye (and nose) on them.

I had one head going off every 5 minutes or so. I spoke to the owner. He stated his mechanic just recently installed a new switch assembly on the vacuume tank. $250. So, I started at the head tightening all hose clamps. Inspected all duckbill valves. Replaced the pump with a spare, all to no avail. I determed the leak was coming from the tank. I struggled getting the tank out of her hidden place. Lo and behold....the leak was from the switch assembly. Never changed by the mechanic.

The water leak shown earlier was his fix also.

I understand times are tough these days for some, but give me a break!

The culprit......the "new" vacuume pump switch assembly. Kinda warped due to overtightening, ya think?

You definitely know who to stay away from should you ever need a mechanic, that is just plain sorry work. At least you now have the problems solved and hopefully there are not anymore lurking around.

How correct you are, nlain. I don't know the guy, and don't want to either. I think I can say none of us likes to be ripped off. I can take care of the little stuff and I have one of the best diesel engine gurus as a friend.

Nah, not solved yet....The screws were supposed to be rebedded in the flybridge. Everything was going well till I found this. Supposed to be fixed, ye, fixed with silicone. Plan is using some teak strips I have lying around

A friend got me thinking about the wood supports for the aluminium trim that you see. Why not cut out the strips needed to support the panels with plywood? Can't I polly or epoxy coat the plywood and get the same, or better results?

Wood as a structure material is new to me. Thanks!

Sasto, you've got your work cut out for you. Seems this boat was meant to be yours to captain. I'd love to wittness the converstation between the owner and "mechanic" regarding your findings, and the mechanics lies, theft, and poor work.

I use that same phrase sometimes... Don't know him, and don't want to. I'm sure I wouldn't like him if I did...;)

Keep on keepin' on sasto!!! I'll see you in St Augustine:D Can't wait to meet you.

I want to say you can do the plywood and coat it to seal, wish I could see in person to be sure. Wood as structure is good as long as you have the right stuff for the job at hand.

Hi nlain,
I went with the plywood fairing strips instead of the teak. I guess the plywood would be easier to seal, for me anyway.
Thanks!

Thanks, veritas honus.

Sometimes it's just better to let a sleeping dog lie. We will let this pass and learn lessons from it.

She is my puppy now. I will keep her happy to the best of my knowledge. She appears to be very happy with me, as I am with her. She has become a part of my family, just like a pet. I feel the vibes....just like the guys here that have brought a craft back to life.

Looking foreward to meeting you also....and I feel the friendship already!

Regards, Capt. Mike Samuels

Wood (Plywood) as a structural component in vehicles has been used forever. Morgan cars up until recently used plywood for underbody panels since they ever started doing business. A marine or A/C ply with a good coat of resin would do the trick. No need to reinvent it.

Good point, dockwrecker.

But I am reinventing. She came with an unknown wood other than ply, it is mush, appears to be a solid wood of some type

Your imput is appreciated.....Very much!

How would you clean these bronze mufflers? I have cleaned and shined seacocks but this is beyond me. What would be the best product and method to use? Thanks.

Wow! Thanks for the info, nlain. I like the homemade methods. I will give them a try and post my results.
