While traveling the ICW...if you can get your wake just right...the dolphin will come around to play. We had several playing and got one shot before the camera memory went full.

Dolphin are amazing animals. Did you know that they're communication is at least 1000 times more complex than any human language? What a blessed life you live, sasto. You beat the odds... You're a survivor, and you obviously treasure every moment. You don't take things for granted, and you see the value of things where most people, today... just don't.

Can't wait to meet you, sasto. It's going to be an honor.

I followed nlains link on cleaning brass. I mixed baking soda with vinegar to a foaming paste and wire brused the solution on. This is results after only 5 minutes. This will do for now. Thanks alot, nlain.

Brasso and some time and elbow grease will have it sparkling better than it did when it was new. Understand, though, the patina may not look pretty to some, but it's the best protection the metal can have. If you need it to shine, though, protect and preserve the luster with wax. A little pledge once a week works great.

Glad that worked for you, it is down to something a lot easier to work with now. Looks much better.

She looks good enough to make some corn liquor out of. Thanks!

Seriously....that concoction of baking soda and vineger did the job. I may give it a try on the bronze seacocks sometime in the future. In the past....I used elbow grease.

Thanks Red,

My mate, my lady, and I took her out a couple days ago for a day trip and she ran and rides fine. She is very easy to manuver at the dock. I am used to sportfish boats, but this one is a blessing. Sportfishing is a tough job. Some captains don't work on their boats, but I do everything I can.

Next trip is to the Bahamas for a couple days. I wish I had a dingy. I like them little boats also.
Just southeast of the Bahamas is a really cool place called Salt Cay. ;)

Thanks, hostage. The only forum I belong to is iboats. I came here needing advice on gas powered boats and am learning all I need to know here. I guess everybody will just have to put up with me. :D

The TV you see is not being used anymore....I'm taking it out. Just looking for suggestions to what might look good in it's place.
A photo of a snow covered West Virginia mountain side, with a plume of wood
smoke gently drifting out of the cabin chimney.

Sasto, that ship needs a 2nd mate who is a formerly certified ASE mechanic.
Also can fake it as a plumber, electrician, etc.

Salary required: free room and board, all the beer I can drink and one month
a year anchored off the coast of Salt Cay during whale migration.

I'm ready for an adventure. :D

Hey Mike,

Ever spit shine a pair of boots? Use Brasso in a similar fashion. Small circles. If your polishing by hand it's going to take a while. If you use a polishing tool (electric or battery) it wont take to long, nor wiil it require much elbow grease.

See ya soon my Friend...

Sorry, Swabbie, I have one that also cooks, cleans, does windows, and she gives me backrubs. You just don't fit that type. :D

Sure have, veritas honus. I served my country and am a disabled vet.

I'm not ready to shine them just yet, but when I do I'm considering Brasso and Barkeepers Friend. That mixture of vinegar and baking soda did the trick for awhile. It will help me keep an eye on any leaks that might develope. Sometime down the road I will need to paint the engines and detail the engine room.

Thanks, buddy. :D

The dock lines I am using were stiff from drying out in the sun and being neglected. I gave 'em a good cleaning and soaked 'em in fabric softner overnight. These lines are now soft and easy to use again. They feel better than new. And if ya care.....they smell good too.

Had that feeling, but you never mentioned it that I know of before now. One more thing we have in common...

Never would have thought to use fabric softener. Have you used it before? Is the rope sissel, hemp, or other natural fiber? The fabric softener may soften the stiffness, but there's still damage done. I'm sure you check your lines daily, and already knew this, though.

Gotta go for now, but I'll catchya later!!!

An oldtimer taught me this some time ago. I don't know if it is common practice or not, but makes a big difference in the way the line handles and protects it for longevity. I use almost only double braid nylon for it's flexability and shock absorbing qualities. I stay away from polyester and natural fibers because of their low streatch and flexability qualities. The softner dosen't really effect the nylon, just puts a sheen on the fibers which produces less wear and tear.

Good Day, veritas honus :)

I haven't flirted death quite as closely as you, but since I turned 53 last week I've decided to start a bucket list.

I've never gone deep sea fishing, when do we go.....?

Is it June yet?... That was for you, Fireman;)

I like a good rubbbing once in awhile, veritas honus, I even do it to myself! ;) Nah, Swabbie, she is for personal use only. If ya wanna go fishin' we go in the "Andrea C". If ya ever wanna go, send me a PM. I will gladly hook you up. :)

I went fishing yesterday for this part. Had to put on the scuba gear and fetch it off the bottom. Visability was 3". The endcap of this railing needs repaired. I really don't know what material it is made of. Non magnetic, appears to be brass. I am looking to get it repaired 'cause I don't think I can find one. Any ideas?
