Jon, after the honeymoon, can you email me at ktsander@st-tel.net and tell me a bit about the honeymooon...errr, I mean, how to build a composite transom. I'm looking at rebuilding mine, and I'm trying to decide how to do it..
thanks, and good luck!

Re: New motor need prop starting point

Well I used the seacast system. I heard mixed things about it and decided to look at it closer. I found that it was stronger than wood and lighter than wood plus it does not absorb water. I also was able to remove the top cap and grind out all the wood with a chainsaw like they recommend on their website. No ripping up my floor. After I was done pouring it, One of the local fiberglass guys told me he has used it about 6 times on everything from skiffs to a 224 mako and no comebacks. The oldest one is about 6 years old. It is solid as a rock on my boat and cant wait to get the motor on it.

Their site is www.transomrepair.com

Almost done!! I just have to paint the transom and if the weather is good this weekend I just may rig the motor. I just prefit a set of lenco 12x10 trim tabs. I wasn't planning on installing them but I figured I would try them out. All I can say now is they look great and I will post on how wellthey work on this hull with the jackplate and new motor.

Just dont mount 'em flush with the bottom. I'd bet the instructions say at least a 1/4" up.

Yup 3/8 is what the instructions say and with the trailing edge on the 12 inch plate, 3/4 of and inch up when you mount the actuator. Already done with the test fit on everything now and just have to prime again, sand and then finally top coats of paint.

Hope I will be running this next week so I can post some results of a bunch of winter projects!!!! :D

Re: New motor need prop starting point

It is a new one, as this problem, is a different one

Dhadley I do not think I can go higher as now the prop loses bite when I lower the rpm to 4000 to cruise and will loose the bite with to much trim now.
I am still about 400 rpm lower than it should what do you suggest next?

Re: New motor need prop starting point

When you cruise at 4000 and trim it to the point it vents, is it necessary to trim it that far? IE -- does it make that much difference in the ride to go from a solid bite trim angle to more trim?

Have you compared the Turbo 18 to the Stiletto 17?

Re: New motor need prop starting point

No it does not seem to be necessary when you trim it down it does not change much. I am just worried that when I run it out offshore it will not bite in larger swells if it is too high.

I also noticed with the jackplate it does not back up to well and water tends to come up between the transom and motor.

I do not have a turbo 18 to try right now.
I am going to raise the motor another 1/4 inch and test again on thursday. I will raise it till it gets worse but now will go in smaller increments

Don't you think the turbo will lower my rpms further as I am 400 shy of 6000 and that will add an inch of pitch?

Re: New motor need prop starting point

Yes, but I was curious because of the different lift abilities.
