the s/m for my rig (#2) states two things.
1 is item 9. Drain cooling system, carefully following instruction in sec. 7 part d, under draining instructions. ok. that's empty, as in no water in the system at all. this is a must do item.
2 is item 12. it says "for additional assurance against freezing and rust, it is recommended that the cooling system be filed with a solution of permanent anti-freeze......" to me the words additional assurance against freezing and rust is critical. since air don't freeze i don't know why that word is there, but i do understand why the word rust is there. the inside of a block rusts over time. antri-freeze inhibits this. and then the word recommended. that means it don't have to be so. it's only recommended by the oem.
choose you poison druff.
in the end, it's all about getting the water out.
