Re: New motor! Stressing about freezing!

the s/m for my rig (#2) states two things.

1 is item 9. Drain cooling system, carefully following instruction in sec. 7 part d, under draining instructions. ok. that's empty, as in no water in the system at all. this is a must do item.

2 is item 12. it says "for additional assurance against freezing and rust, it is recommended that the cooling system be filed with a solution of permanent anti-freeze......" to me the words additional assurance against freezing and rust is critical. since air don't freeze i don't know why that word is there, but i do understand why the word rust is there. the inside of a block rusts over time. antri-freeze inhibits this. and then the word recommended. that means it don't have to be so. it's only recommended by the oem.

choose you poison druff.
in the end, it's all about getting the water out.

Yep just drain it if you are in a freshwater region...using AF is OK if you need the extrqa corrosion protection it can give but only if you put it in right...which has been covered here at least 10 times if not more...I use -100 so I don't have to worry if it gets down to zero which it can here once in a while....and I do feel that it reduces corrision...the thermo housing I replaced in 03 has no flaking corrosion and the inside of the intake manifold that I can see when I change the thermostat also have very little corrosion...

As Don said when you drain by the book...there is a bit of water left...but no enough to do any harm...when I fill mine with AF through the hoses...I leave the drain plugs out at first...and you see a little water come out...then AF...then I replace the plugs and fill it up the rest of the way...but...it's JUST A LITTLE WATER so don't worry.....
