Not bad.....throw in 100 bucks or so in new parts and she'll be a good runner. You may get lucky and pop the flywheel and there's replacement coils already in there...

Nice find BK! Will make a fine addition to your collection.

I've been looking for one of these, anyone seen one lately?

Honestly, did you really need another engine? Good on you. Hope she runs nice for you. Best of luck. Rick.

BK, that 1951 10 is a beaut! For $50, wow! I think that motor may be the last year for the olde-style ;) guilotine points rather than the newer OMC universal type. It always relieves me to see one of these great old motors end up in the caring hands of a knowledgable collector. I have looked at old motors that ended up in the hands of a newby that didn't know enough to run at least 24:1 mix or replace the impeller.

Cofe, my dad had that exact motor, a 1967 folding weedless 3. He bought it new but never used it until 1974. It quickly gained battle scars :( but always ran like a champ. We used it for trolling on dad's 16' Starcraft. It worked beautifully in the weeds on Long Point on Lake Erie. We used it in Algonquin Park on my Grumman canoe or occasionally flew in to remote fishing spots with it. Great motors, those 3s. Now my brother owns it. Ours didn't come with the storage case.

It had the new style coils and points, the coils were cracked and are now replaced- I was surprised to find the new style as everyone says they are the old horseshoe rare ones but they weren't thank god. I got it running, it fired first pull. It had no high speed so I just got inside from removing and cleaning the carb, what a strange carb, lots o screws and a primer...I've never seen it before.

Hey BK, awesome find. I had a couple of those in the past. A 51 and a 53. Nice thing about it, the OMC's, 51 and later had the later style ignition. I had a 51 Evinrude Fastwin set up with it too. Take good care of that gem.:D

Speakin' of Johnsons. :D I just picked up a really nice, 1969 Johnson 4hp. The type that's based on the Light Twin design. I was stuck, when I got it. Now it runs great. Probably only about 20 hours on this little motor.:D
