Here is the helm that I built. Before its mounted it will be sealed on all interior joints with silicone and covered on the exterior in rhino lining similar to the boat deck. The larger hole is for my gauge mounts and the smaller hole is for the stereo, I have not yet done speaker cutouts, but am currently planning on just 2x marine 6x9's, either mounted on the side or front. The shelf on the interior is for the random watch/wallet/keys/etc.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why the helm pics are sideways… silly interwebs

Hey now, you're starting to remind me of me
I do have one small suggestion- If you use plastic or stainless recessed "cup" holders instead on top of your helm it'll give you more open space for mounting depthfinder/gps or watever- it'll also keep the mosture from sweating cans off everything - just put a folded paper towel in the bottom of each holder.

Are you planning to mount the wheel completely vertical on the front or on the plane below the gauge opening?

I am in the process of building a new helm for mine, I have got the helm made but haven't gotten the gauges yet, but am expecting the last one in tomorrow so I may get some pictures.

Does anyone out their know if Kayot was the 1st commercial toon manufacturer ( non Military ) . I know that my Kayot was 42 yrs old and i am am sure it is still on the water at least it was 2 months ago

AFAIK, Weeres was the first commercial manufacturer of toons. The only reason I know that is because I am about to purchase an early '70s 24' Weeres Ambassador, and did some research on the company. Started in 1952 by a Minnesota farmer and still in business.

Im new on this site and have learned so much about boating here, but this has to be the rudest comment I have read on here. Is an old 69 mustange out of style and better scraped out?? There is nothing wrong with taking something old and making it nice. And not everyone can afford a $10,000 boat. Hats off the the man restoring a old boat and BOO to the nay sayers...

I love old stuff too. I would know how to act with a new boat. Bump the dock, who cares LOL Spill beer, who cares. I love to watch that little old motor shake and get on down the Lake

So true, Im looking for an old pontoon to strip down and restore. These old boats have been around this long for a reason, they was built solid back then. Good luck on this project, cant wait to see pics of it on the lake
