Boats aren't like cars. Car manufacturers generally are also the engine maker, and offer a small range of their own engines as options. Boats builders use engine suppliers, for stern drives either Mercruiser or Volvo (who actually source their base engines from car makers ). So a boat may have a Mercruiser or a Volvo of either 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engine. Often it will be at the discretion of the initial purchaser.

1987 5.7 V8 260

Being a 1987 I would guess its an Alpha but would like confirmation. Also if its staying in gear and if it is an Alpha then it would be difficult to get it in neutral.

You can go from forward to neutral and things are OK, but when your in reverse and go to neutral its in forward?

deferents between inboard and stern drives

I just bought Mercruiser Celebrity 210v buddy 1987, 260/v8 alpha one. My question is what engine I have: inboard or stern drive and what's deferents

lenarw79 your posting one thread after another all about the same boat which you just bought and not answering all the questions in the threads you previously posted. I think all these could be in one thread, you making matters worst for your self and us bouncing around.

Being a Celebrity 210 it should be an I/O, and your other thread and the noise you discussing is probably an alpha

Reading thru your different threads it appears you have an alpha drive, and the issue your having with shifting and drive staying engaged, I would say you need the lower shift cable replaced and adjusted.

I think these threads have been merged or closed as needed. lenarw79 Please try to keep your posts about this boat in one thread and in the right area of the forums so we can do a better job helping you. This thread will be retitled.

Read this about Inboards, Sterndrives and Outboards, it's all pictures - http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...ults-only-no-exceptions?p=3991195#post3991195

Sounds like the shift interrupt switch may have been disconnected, usually to 'remedy' another problem.
