Ok the background, powerhead is 1989 110 Johnson I bought has 90 psi on all 4 tested before mounted. I mated the powerhead to a 1987 90hp Evinrude.
New water pump, new thermostats carbs, rebuilt. On trial start fired right up took a few seconds to see water from teltale. A few minuts later overheat buzzer shut her down. Stream was week, pulled lower unit checked water pump had debries cleaned and reinstalled. Flushed motor out from below before installing lower unit. Wish I would have thought of that sooner. Pulled thermostats full of crap cleaned and reinstalled. Second time starting no overheat, cylinder heads a little hot to the touch but still not much pressure from the teltale and no over heat alarm.
My questions:

Why weak stream from teltale?
Water comming out from area behind where the anoid is located instead of from the prop.
See pic.
What is my next step??
Thanks,
Brian

And Joe's zip strip idea for the thermostats worked great!

The pic of the telltale hose has water coming out of it, that shows that the water pump is working.
Also the hose is generally not that long and it points downward so it looks like it is shooting out.
I would say your system is working fine after cleaning it the second time.

+1 for looks OK. If you neck that stream down to run it through the 1/8 outlet fitting it will be a real "pi$$er".

Thanks I didnt think of hooking the hose back up to the button. I give it a try.

Still have the question of why more water is comming from the vent holes on the L.U.
see pic. than out of the prop. Is this normal?

It is until the thermostat opens. The drain holes will always dump water when the water's on.

If the thermostats were full of shmuts, pulling and cleaning the head covers would be in order. They seem to be a magnet for sand and hardened mineral deposits (will not be removed with a flush).

Will I need new gaskets for the head covers or will be able to reuse the current ones.

Put new gaskets on the head covers. The telltale hose should loop upward to the top of the block, then back down to attach to the cowling nozzle. That way the block always fills completely with water before it comes out of the telltale. Looks like yours hose in the picture is long enough to do that.
