I picked up a new project tonight ( yeah I know like I need more projects ) . I have been watching this boat for a month thinking the motor would be sweet for my Crestliner ( its a 1959 merc 45HP ) . I decided while looking at the cutter today the Merc will be staying on it as the boat is in great shape and all the crome and stainless is in really great shape so this one will get opened up to make sure the floor/stringers/transom are in good shape . Then rip the old ugly carpet out of it and get a nice lookin set of seats for it . The outside will end up Carribean Turquoise above the rub rail and white below . So what do yall think I grabbed it for $300.00 he was asking $500.00.

Ok soooooooo heres the first question on this old beast . Anybody have a good place to get rub rail for something this old . The original one on the boat reminds me of a refigerator door gasket ?. I think after 49 years its due to be replaced . I am still amazed at the crome on this thing . I think the only piece I will have to have redone is the bow hook ontop of the front of the bow otherwise all of it is in amazing shape even the spotlight/readview miror :D.

is that rubrail solid? or is it one of the semi hollow ones that run in a metal track to hide the screws/rivets that join the upper and lower halves of the boat?

Re: New toy 60 Cutter Runnabout

Well I managed to find a 1959 Brochure over at fiberglassics and although my boat is a 1960 I am pretty sure I have narrowed down the model of my boat . The brochure shows 2 possible boat models that match mine one is the Como 15 the other is the Skier 15 . The only differance between the 2 models is the seating arangement as much as I would like it to be The Jet De Ville 15 the rear splashwell isnt right ( although I could certainly build the splashwell ) . The original seats are not in the boat so narrowing it down further most likely isnt possible unless I get lucky and find something inside the boat but at least I have it narrowed down to 2 models :D. Whats Skeery is the borchure says these little boats came with up to a 70HP motor on them . I am not sure I would want that much power on her if you look at the picture of the Crestliner , Cutter and Larson sitting next to each other the Crestliner was only rated for up to 90 HP and it looks Huge compared to the little Cutter heck the Larson Tri Hull only has a 120 HP Merc on it and it looks like I could use the Cutter as a dingy in it LOL.

Rick,
That will look GREAT behind your 63 ford pickup! That rubrail does look like it's gong to be hard to match..

Bret I think I managed to find a fairly close match here in the parts section after digging into mine a little yesterday and pulling some of the insert out of it . I know it wont be exact buuuuuuuut I have looked at alot of Cutters ( well ok as many as I could fine online ) and havent seen any with a rubrail exactly like mine since mine will most likely be the only one on the Ohio in my area I dont think I will have to many peaple looking at it going Duuuude that rubrail isnt right :D.

Re: New toy 60 Cutter Runnabout

Well I havent had a chance to touch her this weekend been building a pond for SWMBO . I should have the pond in this weekend and get back to the cutter next weekend . First priority is to remove whats left of the rubrail then get a decent look at the transome and yank the well glued down carpet out of her . Deck feels solid but if it doesnt look right once I get into her ( its a small deck ) :D.
