If this is a continuation of the previous thread you started, then you should have kept that thread going. If its not, then as I am sure your english teacher told you, your papers could use more information. By starting new threads, with an issue, that seems not be resolved, makes proper troubleshooting, redundent.

i will, since theres no help here, until i find someone with helpfull info or with these types of problems aswell i might aswell not bother here...my johnson never had 1 problem, mercurys are all problems. and the guy who makes the 12$ parts and sells them for 175$ should have his head blown off

Re: new trigger already wrecked ??!

well it didnt blow when i put anthor plug i had lying around in, i found a fuel leak, ghetto fuel system for sure but i doubt this is all of my troubles. it cant be good for it to be running on 2cyl until warm, hopefully it holds up until i get everything settled.

Re: new trigger already wrecked ??!

leaks in fuel systems cause motors to lean out, maybe number one is down on compression? As for the lack of help, around here, bring it to a shop and get them to fix it.

Re: new trigger already wrecked ??!

well i took the plug wire off 3, ran the same..... SO i decided to switch the coil pack #3 with #2, im not sure if thats a bad idea or anything but like i really care. so it didnt fire up, it did but barely and died. SO i have other coils at the shop. ill get one tmrw and hopefully my luck will change for the better. thanks to the ones that listed typical problems.

Re: new trigger already wrecked ??!

no one has these motors anymore so i cant get much help,

It turns out the coil wasnt the problem, althoughi think its a part of it. i changed it up so it ran again with another working pack and still nothing. back to square 1. the damn trigger is probably toast.

I can't even remmber what motor you have. Be nice if you would post that.

FBR is not the way to trouble shoot a problem. (field block replacement) In some case's it makes it harder to actually find the true problem. People have asked you several questions about symptoms, like the compression readings, your answer......."there all good". IF you want help, then be helpfull, don't dish the people here trying to help you out.

Now motors all come down to these things. all happening in the correct sequence. Air/Fuel, Compression, and Spark . If anyone is missing, or out of time, or sequence, it won't run right.
When you say you switched # 3 with # 2, did you mean the plug wires? IF you did, then of course it won't run right. the fireing sequence is off. What that would show you, I have no clue. IF you know the carbs are good, the compression is good, the fuel pumps are good, then its time to look at the delivery of spark. Have you checked the timing? Have you tested the stator?
If its getting spark, then most likely the coil packs are fine. Oh did you test for spark, ie spark gap tool, or take all the plugs out, and ground them, and crank it, to check for spark at the very least?
Last but not least, most people here type full words, your jibbsh, mks it hrd to rd. Nt t mnt hrd to udstnd

Re: new trigger already wrecked ??!

i changed out the coil pack itself for another used one, and still nothing...i had a mechanic put the trigger in clean the carbs and do a lync and sync hoping it would be a 1 time deal.....i guess not with these motors. i cant check spark since i have no one else to crank it. the compression i imagine was 110-115 all across but id have to check again. I checked by hand and they all felt the same after it failed.

I got some ohm readings off the leads from the trigger, so i guess its working but i dont know. all i can do is get the shop to check it out again, put some new plugs in it if nothing appears wrong and thats about it. mabey the stator is shot now .... how can i check

Re: new trigger already wrecked ??!

I don't know your motor, too new for me, so I can't tell you the tests for you trigger, but I would have hoped the mechanic who did the trigger change would have done some tests. Question, did you just ask him/her to change the trigger, or was it diagnosed by the mechanic?

Re: new trigger already wrecked ??!

he did everything to the motor since i got it cheap and had extra from my old motor to fix it up, he cleaned the carbs, changed the impeller since it wasnt pumping water. I did a quick lower unit oil change, changed the plugs, and put it in. low power, so i took it out right away. and he diagnosed the old trigger to be failing, it had rotted wires. then The new part was put in and it worked fine for 4-5hrs. then outside my house bam same problem.....i guess the trigger/stator/or maybe those old power packs arent any good.

the # 3 cylinder is not firing, when it worked it was either always running 3 or it would pick up as soon as i went past half. we'll see what happens, 70's i guess are ****

this is a 3cyl 70hp mercury from the early 80's late 70's

Re: new trigger already wrecked ??!

Honestly, I never liked the three cylinders, and I guess the next step is to test the stator. Its much cheaper if you could get a manual, and do the test yourself. Unfortunatly I don't know how for that motor. You can also test the power packs too.
