Re: New used trailier and fitment with my boat
It is definitely sitting on the bunks, the boat doesnt touch anything else until the the first support area in the front. The bunks are bolted to the frame and the wheel wells are bolted to the bunks. So there really aren't any adjustments I can do other than a complete redesign. I'm wondering if I can just leave it or should I redesign the whole thing......
No Crabby is correct, you are too but think about what he is trying to say your boat is setting on the bunk but in reality the load is probably equally pushing your bunks out and that isn't good.
I would add another bunk running just outside the strake, mounted horizontally this will make loading your boat much easier and take the weight off the outer bunk and making them somewhat redundant but make no mistake I would add the new bunks becoming the primary load carriers of the trailer.
Another thought is if you can turn the existing bunks 45 degrees it would help exponentially, wood doesn't like lateral pressure and turning your bunks into the hull would do wonders but I am not sure you can do this, the reason why I bring this up is I am not sure that your trailer can withstand the load of your boat being on the cross members, it appears as though your trailer was designed for the load of the trailer to be placed on the two mains of the trailer instead of the cross members so adding another bunk mounted to the cross members may not be a good idea afterall.
