You will get terrible fuel economy and low power if you use a cam out of an S-10. That's all there is to it. An S-10 works at a completely different power band than a boat. There's a reason boats and RVs get different cams. Yes, it will work, but then again so would a 5hp Briggs and Stratton. Why can't you just use the cam out of the old engine?

the cam in the S-10 engine is a roller cam. I'm not sure if the cam from my marine engine will work?

I just had the same problem and had to rebuild my engine. All the outer accessories will need to be swapped (obviously), as well as the marine cam and flywheel. You will also need to use your old oil pan for reasons that will become clear when you pull the engine. Keep your carb attached to the intake and swap it straight over. You'll need to pull the drain valves out of the old block to install in the new one. Remove the exhaust studs for re-use as well. Your marine distributor will need to be used along with the timing cover, water pump and fuel pump.
Bottom line is this; everything from the old engine comes to the new one except heads, crank and pistons. When you re-ring the new one (which you should), the crank doesn't necessarily need to be removed.
As for the year??? I used a 4.3L from a newer Monte Carlo and had no problems. Good luck!

Do yourself a favor and take pictures of your old motor before you take it apart. If you have a digital camera your pictures will be right there on your PC. It is always nice to have a reminder of just how that bracket goes back on.

I wish I could...see, what happened was the engine was knocking last year...not having a shop of my own, I dropped it off at a boat shop to have it checked out....and to make a long story short, all I have left is 3 boxes of parts...all engine parts, minus my cracked block and 1 cracked head. At least they gave me the casting numbers for the block and head.

Luckily, the OMC manual that came with the boat has lots of pics of the engine from different angles and shows you what is what :D

how much power will I get out of it? It is bored .030 and using 350 performance pistons I believe. Its got 190lbs compression across all cyls...they are all identical...solid engine (hence my predisposition to using it...)

Anyone know the redline on an S10?

Well,
The Overbore doesn't Really add much to the equation........
And,
A Compression Test Doesn't Really reveal the Compression Ratio........
And,
You'll want to Redline(WOT) it to the Same 4600/4800rpms.........

That motor with a 4bbl. Carb. Should give you a Solid 200hp+.............................
Maybe More...

The only major problem we have left is the fuel pump. I'm going to use the 4bbl carb off the original engine. The original engine had the fuel pump mounted on the front of the block. The new engine doesn't have those holes. What can I do to remedy this?

Sounds like you'll need an electric pump.

You'd need a Pressure Regulator..........

Your Carb Needle Valve,+ Float will Not hold that kind of Pressure..............

Just asking here because I don't know. Is the marine electric fuel pump ignition protected? How about the automotive version....
