Re: newly married man needs go buy wife a first bday gift.....no ideas need advice

Several years back I was on a Xmas shopping trip with my treasured granddaughter (I have 7 grandsons, 4 great grandsons and only the one female descendant) when I asked her what she wanted most in the world. I expected her to name some hi-tech portable device, but she looked at me with a tear in her eye and said, "To be sixteen years old. I HATE being 11." I gave her a hug and said that time will provide.

She will be 16 on the 24th. She is getting a heart shaped pendant with 16 tiny diamonds and a personal note from Granpa about becoming a grown lady. She is on the list of Birthday celebrants for our Spring Birthdays family gathering this Saturday.

I think girls/ladies most want to be told, "I know who you are and I dearly treasure you."

Absolutely! Never met a woman that didn't like jewelry.
yes that is nice but take a chance and get something you both can enjoy....perhaps a Labrador Retriever pup....one of the best companions you both could ever have and great with kids too if you plan on having any !!!!

Come on guys, you are all missing an opportunity here ... she hunts and fishes ... get her something to sling over her shoulder - A NEW RIFLE (you know, the calibre you have been dying to own), or A NEW ROD! Seize the opportunity!

PS If you follow this advice, be prepared with something sparkling to get you out of the dog house! In fact, you may need the massage, the cards, the flowers, and the glitter to do it, but you will now have the coveted rifle at your disposal (provided she didn't use it on you before you had to the chance to break out the back-up "Get out of the Dog House" plan.

Above all else, no appliances. Made that mistake once, never again.

A woman having a lot of jewelry is like a man having a lot of guns, fishing tackle and tools.
There is no such thing as too much.

You have a unique opportunity to do it right, don't blow it. Go out and get the things all the things that will make her the perfect wife IE.: pots & pans, a new broom (a vacuum cleaner if you want to spoil her) some good soap powder, scrub brushes, a wash-board... you get the idea. A real woman wants to please her husband, not to be pampered like some spoiled brat. Try reading the corn!

Women are a lot like trout. You put something shiny in front of them and they will strike at it and be happy. i have been married for 30 years and I have never gone wrong at the shiny bobly store.:D

If you really wanna do it right, if she works in an office setting spend a few dollars and have some flowers delivered to her workplace.

Women love to play games, and make other women jealous. Nothing works better than a bright bouquet of flowers sitting on her desk all day long reminding all her friends how great of a guy you are. Plus its foreplay for women. She'll be thinking of you all day long everytime she looms at them... plus all the compliments... trust me.

Save the other gifts for when she gets home.

Ditto! The best gift I ever suprised my wife with was her dog. A black pug. I put a bow on her neck and when my wife got home from work I let her go. My wife was so suprised she balled her eyes out! That was 6 years ago and that little dog still puts a smile on her face!

Edit : oops! Missed you already had 4 dogs. Scratch that!

When we got married 16 years ago my bride only asked for a vacume so I obliged. First house and we were struggeling to make ends meet. She was very pleased but I'd never do that again, not even a birthday. Bobbles, surprises and something to make her feel special. Something to tell her your listening/paying attention to her always.
On my 40th she sent me on a balloon ride..She listened and tought me a subtle lesson.

You might want consider that you may be setting a standard. If you over do it out of the gate, she may expect hi end gifts forever. And some food for thought...On my X wifes 30th bday, I bought her a $465 dollar neckless, a gold chain with a gold nugget that had a diamond and her birthstone in it, a $65 bundle of tanning salon points, a $60 bottle of perfume AND I took her out to dinner..then a personnal massage and...well, you know. [ I hope] Two weeks later at a neighborhood get-together,all the hens were in another room cackling, I overheard one of her GFs ask her what I got her for her Bday, She said.....nothing......It dont matter what you get'em, its never enough.. So you're looking for something unique to give her on her birthday? What a lot of other guys say, you need to know what she likes/dislikes, interests, that sort of thing. Don't just take her out to dinner and a movie, but maybe dinner and a movie in another city, complete with a nice top notch hotel with a spa package. Women love that kind of thing. Surprise her and make all the arrangements yourself. Someone else mentioned flowers at work....that's a good start. Women love to get that kind of attention where her co-workers see it. If she adventerous, take her on a hot air balloon ride. Or maybe tickets to her favorite band....Jimmy Buffett. Last year I got tickets for Carrie Underwood concert in town. And another time I took her zip lining. She loved both. Of course, you just cannot screw up with jewelry. Get her a diamond anything and she'll melt in your arms.

That is ALWAYS a tough one for me. She is not a typical woman. I married a Cherokee maiden. She is a crack shot, but doesn't want to hunt. She can fillet both sides of a striper before I can get one side skin off. She can cut up and wrap a deer, in less time than I can cape and quarter it for her. And I am not a slouch with a blade.

One year I bought her a set of boning and skinning and fillet knives and a balanced tomohawk that were handmade, and exquisite, from a man in the Carolina reservation. She still treasure's them.

Nowaday's I make a date night out of her birthday, where we go out for dinner, and we go shopping for her, together. Whatever she wants. Sometimes it's jewelry, but mostly it ends up being an impulsive purchase that she would never just go out and buy for herself.
