Bottom line is that local news is viewed as entertainment and the more people a station can get watching it, the more dollars they can get for advertising.

I don't let my kids watch our local news cast anymore, it's all gang shootings & child molesters. Sad really.

Don't know how old your kids are, but, news stories like the ones you mentioned(it is sad) can be used as learning tools, especially the child molester ones. They need to be aware that there are bad people out there and they may encounter them. They need to know how to handle a given situation if it were to ever arise. I pray to God it never happens.......

I'm not sure if there is more bad stuff happening, but in these times of instant information, you hear about bad stuff throughout the world. Not that its not a tragedy that a ferry in Indonesia capsized killing dozens or a landslide in Peru wiped out a village, but I could do without hearing that on the 6 o'clock news.

I used to love to watch the evening news and the Sunday news talk shows but not anymore. I quit around 7 years ago. I have enough stress, anxiety, doom and gloom without adding hyped up local, national and world news to it. I still read the Newspapers online but skip articles that would both me. Most things will never effect us personally. Most things we can't do anything about. Sometimes I think I would be better off living in the wilderness off the grid. Most of what life is after 50 is just repeats anyway. Thing only can get worse as your health starts to fail

Ok so I am bummed out. The ole lady says no more boating for the rest of the year. Time for Christmas shopping!!!! We always boat until at least the first of November. I guess the low water levels have her focusing on other things. I could put up with dragging the boat through mud if it means I have to go shopping LOL Temps will be in the 80s Saturday here. Doesn't exactly get me in the Christmas spirit. Does get me in the boating spirit :D

Grow a pair and go boating... you're spreading your own doom and gloom.

Considering the quality of programming on commercial TV in the evening, "doom and gloom" is a step up.

You said it. I can't even let my kids watch a family friendly program alone for fear of the content of the commercials. Commercials with gun fights, blood, terrifying situations and talking about sexual assault during a commercial break of America's Got Talent is a little much.

Exactly! A lot of men grow a pair and end up on the street sleeping in the car--for long time :D

Or pick the wrong hill to die on.... :)

If he goes boating it won't be him spreading the doom and gloom....:D

I refused to live like that, so instead of getting rid of the boat... I got rid of the woman. One of the best choices I ever made and the same boat is sitting in the driveway... and the woman is kicking cans down the road.

Some of us men are pretty serious about our boats and boating.
