I always knew they put some addictive chemical in that oil..I found if you quit eating Mickee Dee fries for 30 days, then eat some they taste awful. Evil CEO and big corp execs are plotting much worse things in the future..we need a government take over of the fry and boat oil industries...
PS I heard that super Tech is really Buger King oil...just a rumor though

Re: NGK vs Champion plugs/ hard to start fixed

I realize I'm a newbie around here, and don't claim to be much more than a shade tree mechanic.....but will throw my 2 cents in just for the heck of it.

Back in the 70's I ran Suzuki dirt bikes (mostly 100cc - 125cc). They came with NGK plugs in them. I was getting ready for a run, and went by the parts store for new NGK's and they were out. They give me the Champion equivalent instead. It's all they had, and short notice I took them. I found this one thing to be true with mine.....if I ran the Champions hot and heavy that day, I could toss them in the garbage after that. The plugs would look fine, but I don't think a lightening bolt would make them spark again.....if they did, it would be weak. I had to do this more than one time, and always got about the same results with the Champions. The NGK's would last much longer, even under hot and heavy running.

That said....to really throw a twist in this thread. I fouled out while at a friends place one day. I thought I had a spare plug, but didn't. I was without anything. My buddy walks out to his barn....shuffles through an old box of junk, and pulls out an old AC Delco plug. He ain't got a clue what it came out of, but the size was the same, so I stuck it in the motor. I figured what the heck, if it would run at all it would get me back. Believe it or not, the thing run better than it ever had. When I went back to get new plugs I told the guy to give me AC Delco. I ran those things to death, and hardly ever had trouble with one. Hot and heavy didn't seem to bother them at all. I never stuck another Champion or NGK plug in those things after that.

I guess that throws another wrench in the gears with this thread, but it appears that at least way back when, they wasn't all created equal.

If you had the "correct" plug for your application and type of use, then you wouldn't have any "run it hard one day and throw it out" plugs.

As I said before heat ranges between brands are not exactly the same, its a range, the cross referenced plug is just the closest one they have to the competitions product, not identical.

Depending on how you ride your bike the plug you use will be different. If you had an RM (Suzuki's racing version) the plug listed for it would be a cold one because its designed for all out racing, if you didn't ride it that way the plug would foul because the motor will be running colder. You may need to go one or two heat ranges hotter to not foul it. Also the racing versions of all the big four recommended an oil ratio of 20:1 for racing, if you ran a leaner ratio of 32:1 or 40:1, which was very common and didn't re-jet the carb you would be running too rich, which again may foul the plug.

Some engines are very forgiving and several different plugs will work fine in them, others are far pickier and need the correct one.

I have never used, or found a brand of plug to be "bad", it may not be the correct plug for the application and the results were poor, but the brand of plug(s) wasn't bad.

" Each start ending in a poof " Sounds like a fuel problem that cleared up coincidentally with your changing of the spark plugs , NGK's are my favorite I use them in everything I run . Ask RODBOLT what he thinks about what happened . By the way those V Four OMC's where some of the best outboards ever made .
