Re: Night fishing
Pardon the rant, this is a great idea, night fishing,
Abridged addition;
My impressions, lighted slip, night dive, theft, Tree-at-sea, bon fire fishing, the wife, the coast guard, a 19 year old with a M-16? and some stupid people, here goes,
The longer version;
Lights on the bottom of the slip, what a concept, jig a little bait, toss em in the live well, drink another beer all from the slip, go to sleep, wake up, ready, great idea.
Night diving is so different from day diving, no ideas what to target other than octopus and squid, though squid tastes great, they pay as much as $600.00 per ton at the dock, IIRC. Why not buy it from the boats? DFG rules! no dock sales! That sucks! No bait!
That's right, that's the only thing we use for bait when fishing white sea bass (or salmon), seen some 75-100 lbs bass in the last 2 weeks. Very fickle fish, bring your luck. When the bite is ON, it won't be long before it's OFF, ya gotta be there, what a b***h, the buoy that we left with the anchor was missing this morning, glad I wasn't there to see the tirade of radio chatter and cell calls
Good luck night fishing, my history, "night fishing, more beers than fish, do it from a safe place like the beach.....with a fire...yup were fishing, what do you mean you need to see some licenses?" that's night fishing.
As far as going fast on the water, in the dark, the last time we had a big storm (maybe 2 weeks ago) we reported a "tree" floating vertically, bobbing just under the surface for 20-30 seconds at a time and surfacing for the same time but sticking out of the water over 12 feet straight up. It was around 3 feet across. Such a nasty hazard, we stopped and got a GPS lock and called it in, that was the most nervous I've been in some years, that thing would run you through and in was underwater for 20-30 seconds. Unnerving at best, scary at worst, It got close 1 time because the wind and the currant are different, popped up too close, we freaked, put the 200 ponies to work and hi-tailed it out of there.
I will not go fast on the water here if it's dark, not worth it!
Build a fire, bring rum, a pole, tackle and a license.
have a safe time instead of limping home....hoping the radar will hold out and the GPS will work as well...that aint fun....
Sorry, I'm kinda old, learned some things, been here and there.
If you go night fishing, make sure the wife enjoys herself and you will do it again. If not, come home with fish on your breath.
Night fishing, ya, right, cool.
Sitting duck for the CG too, though we have nothing to hide, they want to help, ya know while were here, flairs, horn, ya know, a 19 year old with a M-16?

, just wanted to see to your safety,
Be safe, rant over, sorry, bad day, stupid people,
Eeeeeesssssccccccuuuuuussssmmmmmeeeeeeeee........
