It could possibly need cleaning, just because you just did it doesn't mean that something couldn't have gotten pulled up into it. Are you sure that your primer is working? Actually is it a primer or a choke on that 85? If you didn't set the float quite right or it's possibly sticking on something, it could be causing the carb to run too rich and could be flooding a little, then when you hit the primer or choke it's not gonna solve it because it's already too rich of a mixture. Is there any reason for the guy to be lying to you, have you used him before?
