My 1988 75 horse Mariner will not pump water when using muffs but pumps fine in the water. Is this normal?

how do you know it's pumping fine in the water? what do you mean it's not pumping with the muffs? from what you're describing it sounds like your muffs are clogged!

this also means you've probably already ruined your impeller.......

Re: no water when using muffs

I put the muffs on a couple of weeks ago and got no water coming out of the pee hole so I shut it off. When I took it to the river Saturday it pumped out water just fine. I know the muffs arent clogged because when I turn on the hose water comes out of it. This is very confusing to me.

How long did you run it on the muffs? Long enough for the stats to open?

I'm not sure how long that takes. I didnt want to risk damage to the motor so I shut it of after maybe 20-30 seconds without seeing any water come out.

Its not uncommon to have a poor telltale output when on muffs. Should have some water from the telltale after 30 seconds or so. If not, your impeller may be questionable.
