No Water :(

Just a frustration post!!!

This morning I did not have any water pressure and the best I could get was a pencil stream from the faucet. Ironic since the rest of the country is flooding out.

Called a Water Well company and it seems as if the pump has troubles or it is trouble at the connection at the pump..... at the bottom of the drilled well. Since the pump is a 1979 vintage and the pipe in the well is galvanized ....... it has to be pulled by a pump truck.

I am going to replace the pump since it is a 1979 or older and "could" contain pcb's in the pump oil. (I have seen them rupture and destroy a well) I am also going to replace the galvanized pipe (the last piece I am aware of) since I converted my 1860's farm house over to all copper about 20 years ago. The Well company told me that they will install 1" black plastic pipe.... cheaper than copper and reliable too.

GRrrrrrr..... just pisses me off I really did not need this repair bill right now but...... I consider it safer to do now instead of the dead of winter.

Think about all the money you've saved having a well in the 27 years that stuff has served you and you'll feel better. If that doesn't work, think about the alternative:

I got some worries about my well to Bob. It to is galvanize pipe. Maybe next spring I'll get it pulled and put the plastic in. I've got my bucket truck that I could use, but not sure if I want to take a chance of dropping it into the well casing. Then I know it will be a bigger expense on fishing it out.

Good luck and sorry about your misfortune. At least your ahead of the game on the oil contamination.

Yeah it is frustrating when you don't anticipate it. There is a well company coming nest week with the bucket truck to do the work. I just need to get through this mess.

Of course I am still not capable of heavy work yet eirther or I would have tackled the job.

How's your basement water situation? Get some big air movers down there to dry it so you do not get mold.

Better to replace it now than have it fail when a blizzard is raging !
I've replaced a few well pumps in my time , and , they were all a huge PIA .
FWIW , you may want to also replace your pressure tank at the same time .
Seen several fail immediately after a new pump was installed , as the bladders could not stand up to the sudden increase in pressure from the new pump .;)

Re: No Water :(

I am not too concerned but the tank is an easy replacement for me. When I got the house I stripped all the galvanized pip out and re-plumbed the house with copper and a new tank.

I used 3/4 feeds then branched off to 1/2" to avoid pressure loss is someone is in the shower and some other water source is turned on. Worked fine when the pump was alive.

Heck the bladder tank is a local DIY item. :)

I got 2 dehumidifiers running and several fans going. Glad I have tile, it sure made it easy to get things cleaned up. Could have been worse if it wasn't a walk out basement since a lot of the water went out the door.It worked like an overflow on a pond. I'm on vacation this week but my odds of getting it called off is very possible. I hate being the only tech that they have and plus with my shop being destroyed,,,,,,,,,,yeah, kinda depressed big time.
