'87 searay with 3.0 litre Alpha 1.....Converted from breakerpoints ignition to electronic...wired as per pertronix tech support...turn key no crank just a grinding noise out of distributor...(like not enough juice/voltage going to it...)...wired black of pertronix to negative of coil...wired red of petronix to electric choke side of purple "resistance wire"...spliced right before connector that plugs into electric choke.coil wiring is way it was wired originally with original distributor setup...engine did turn over before (just no fire) when it was wired different...(I am thinking seriously to go back to points!)...Any help appreciated....Pete

I believe the battery to be good and cables are taut...BUT..when I turn my ignition on my ammeter at the helm it reads under 11 volts..should it read 12V ?..Thanks,Pete

Invest $3.99 at Harbor Freight and buy a volt meter.
Check the actual battery voltage, the gauge on the dash may or may not be accurate.
Believing the battery and cables to be good is kinda pizzing in the wind when it comes to diagnosing anything. Dunno waht you mean by they are "Taut"....

Taut means tight..(southern thing I guess)...I have a DVM already and I WILL be calling back Tetronix support again....Like I said the boat cranked before this re-wire instructed by Tetronix..I cannot believe my battery went bad in a couple of days timeframe..worst case senerio..I convert back to points...Thanks,Pete

Re: noisey distributor

If you have a very low battery, it won't crank, and it may make the Pertronix unit buzz, I don't know. Test your battery with your DVM, rather you believe the battery could be dead or not.... CHECK it.
