Re: noisy note plucker next door

I dont need to learn an instrument cause I played drums for over 15 years on a regular basis. Only reason I dont have a set now is because I RESPECT my neighbors. I do have a strong power amp with 6 speakers I could aim in his direction but I dont want to have to......I told his father in law yesterday and maybe that will end it. As far as talent goes this clown might in several years be able to play "mary had a little lamb" at some childs birthday party,,, believe me it is hopeless.

You play the drums and he his guitar...(?)

Move up to Buffalo. No one sits in their garage from September - April.

Music at high decibles can be considered disturbing the peace.

That's where I stand. The guy can play anytime he wants, but he still should respect his neighbors and turn it down. This is more than your "standard" neighborhood noises. Especially when it's day after day, hour after hour as the OP stated.

In my case, let's just say, "bear dogs".

The obvious solution is - he puts a set of headphones on and plugs them in to his amp. Amps have this feature for this very reason. He can turn them up as loud as.
The 2nd is simple too. Complain to your local authority. They will check the level of noise (db) and if he is over the legal limit for time and place, they can handle it.

I think you may find Local Authorities throughout the western world have similar policies - they would prefer to deal with 'issues' rather than neighbours going to war over them.

Cheers
Phillip

Don't laugh, but this week, maybe 5 mins drive from here, 2 neighbours had a 'discussion' in the middle of a nice street over the noise one's forni-cating cat makes during the night, outside ones bedroom. Result - a punch up - one neighbour with a broken arm, the other in the slammer looking down a criminal conviction - all over a cat. I mean.....

Amplified Bagpipes?....... That would get some attention:eek:

one of my favorite songs has amplified bagpipes...AC/DC , " It's a long way to the top if ya wanna rock-n-roll". louder it is, the better it sounds.

i feel for ya dude. i had the law called on me many times. once time, the responding officer stated that the neighbors had no problem with the volume...only that we had been playing the same song for three hours and specifically requested that we play something...anything else. head phones now keep the peace in my house. you should consider a gift of $20 headphones and hope for the best. a subscription the Guitar World magazine would be icing on the cake. every month he would get a reminder of your gratitude for him granting you peace. the magazine has sheet music he'd be interested in and lessons to develop his skills. if you can buy peace and quiet for $40, it's probably worth a try.

Walk over there kick over the amp and tell him to SHUT the HELL up!!!
Being nice does not work with idiots!!
Maybe find him a job if you dont want to talk to him face to face then he will be working and not irritating you!
If it bothers you enough to loose sleep DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.....The FIL is a weak push over that let him move in so he will do nothing about it.

I think it was the Boston Philharmonnic Orchestar that recorded Tchiakovski's 1812 Overture, using cannon fire where Tchiakovski wrote it as musical notes. I have the CD.....it's quite good, and the louder it gets played the more impressive it is. (Problem is that very few speakwers can duplicate the crack of live cannon fire well.)
Another CD that I was introduced to, but have failed to get one for myself, was a sound effects disc. Multiple sound effects recorded using multiple mics so that it had true spacial "feel" as it came out of the speakers. Subject matter was greatly varied......lightning storms, steam trains cruising by slowly or at full throttle, and (IMO), the piece de resistance.......a high speed, low level fly-by of a Lockheed SR-71........at high volume, in the Navy barracks that I was housed, it vibrated the concrete block walls, but DAMN it sounded sooooo good.

" I can make much louder noise..." Rivermouse, just be carefull where you point the "speaker":D..........seriously, I hope the guy is understanding of your complaint. I know most people would not like to hear it either, esp. frequently.

Sit outside and clean your guns in plain view :D

I would suggest approaching HIM (not the FIL) one day while he's playing, strike up a conversation, make buds, then ask him to keep it down...

Some guys got in a fight over some... ehhh... 'tail'? That doesn't sound like a very rare occurrence...
