So, I've noticed a bunch of members are from the north GA/Atlanta metro region. With the weather these last couple of weeks, I'm seeing Lake Lanier finally starting to come up to more normal levels, which of course gets me thinking of that time when it will be warm enough to get out on the water! I was wondering if there was any interest in having a get-together for North Georgia and surrounding region iBoaters? I figure even something as simple as agreeing on a beach, bringing a couple of grills, and spend the day enjoying the water!

Anyone interested?

Re: North Georgia get-together?

You could have multiple states involved in this one, sounds like a great idea. I started the Florida South Ga thread this year, we have been getting together for several years now starting in 2009, sometimes it takes some work to get it to come together. My experience has been that you get a group of boaters together and they have fun, boating, fishing, water sports or just hanging out together. Your group could easily include Tenn, SC NC, Bama, even KY. Boaters will travel to get together with other boaters. I will watch this myself, depending on when and the circumstances on my end I may travel to join you. The one I am currently working on is on 6/21-6/23 in the Appalachicola Fl area.

Now that's a fine idea. I've watched the S. GA/FL thread with interest thinking we should do a more northerly get together as well. I yak at folks in the forum and ya'll look alike, it would be nice to put faces and usernames together. Thanks for starting this, eavega.

Sounds good, maybe we could switch on some weekends and meet on Allatoona. Keep us posted.

Hey Richard, lets hope they do not pick our weekend. Seriously, you folks do what you need to and if we can we may join you. We have learned through several of these that there is no way to make everyone happy, we do the best we can and work from there.

Hehe. Honestly, the South GA/FL get-together is what put the idea in my head. I would rather not interfere with your dates. If we get interest from farther afield than the North GA area, we can even try to plan a multi-day thing. There are some good campgrounds around Lanier and Allatoona that have boating facilities (ramp, dock, etc). Right now I was thinking towards either the end of May or beginning of June. The earlier in the season, the better at Lanier in case the drought has not broken here. I'm wide open to dates with the exception of Memorial Day weekend. If anyone is interested, lets hear what would be some good dates.

We are retired empty nesters, so any date will work for us.

I'm open for any date except holiday weekends. Allatoona, Lanier (haven't boated there yet), Carters, Blue Ridge. Heck. any N. GA lake with water I guess. Should be a fun get together.

Re: North Georgia get-together?

I am throwing my hat in...I have been watching the S GA FLA meet and I am trying to work out the details if I can make it. It really sounds like it is going to be a great event. One problem is the distance. An event in NGA would be closer. I am about 30 minutes south of ATL.

I would like to do a trip from Eufaula to the gulf. I keep reading about it and I am not sure about water levels in some areas...

Has anyone ever did a trip on the Tenn river?

Anyway, I will keep watching and looking forward to this summer, it was 22 degrees this morning!

I'm down for a meet. Should be a lot of fun to get a large turnout. I'm open to any weekend of the year, already have a camping trip planned for Memorial Day. Staying at Shady Grove for the first time on Lanier. Stayed at Sawnee Campground last year on Lanier and they had nice boat ramp and camp site were close proximity to the water so we were able to beach the boat.

Sunbird, have you already reserved at Shady Grove? We were planning on doing Shady Grove for Memorial Day also, but my understanding is that you can only reserve 30 days in advance. Shady Grove is our go-to campground due to its proximity to the house and the convenience of its dock and ramp.

I was thinking Shady Grove for the get-together if it turns into a multi-day thing.

Keep the suggestions coming as to a date. I am thinking last week of June at this point. I have a vacation planned the first weekend in June, returning the second weekend in June. The South GA/FL get together is the 21st, so I am thinking we are firming up around the 29th of June, but that may get close to 4th of July...

@ Eric, I haven't reserved yet but will be making the reservation asap. We have some friends planning on going as well. If we get enough people i'm sure we can get a group rate. How are the sites proximity to the water?

Thanks for joining the Facebook group!

I'll take a shot at making it up there. Coming from Macon/Warner Robins.

eavega/Sunbird - If Shady Grove is a GA state park you can reserve up to 13 months in advance. I got this email notice from the DNR last week;

New Reservation System
Last month we launched a new reservation system that offers improved navigation and interactive maps. Guests can make reservations up to 13 months in advance (to the day) by visiting GeorgiaStateParks.org or calling 1-800-864-7275.
Although summer vacation and autumn leaf watching seem far away, it?s not too early to plan ahead. Our most popular cabins and group camps book far in advance!
Check out our reservation website for:

Here's the reservation link at GADNR Camping at Georgia State Parks | Georgia State Parks

Nope. Forsyth County park. The county parks and rec website specify that its 30 day reservation, but last year I called exactly at 30 days prior to the Memorial Day weekend, and they were already mostly sold out. All the water-view or water-access sites were taken at 9 AM on that day, that is why I was asking.

There are a few sites that are accessible enough to the water, but with being on the main lake, its tough to anchor due to the amount of chop you get. Usually I just put in at the ramp in the morning and take advantage of the couple of beaches around the campsite that allow you to beach the boat, then I pull out at the end of the day and park the boat back at the campsite.
The group site has no water access, so the group rate thing is a no-go. Forsyth county parks and rec has a site for shady Grove, and the sites on the water are listed. The problem is that the best sites have no power or water hook-up, so if you camp with a camper and expect power and water, you have to choose convenience to the lake or convenience at the campsite.

I wasn't sure. With County. State and COE parks it gets confusing. I'm not familiar with Lanier Thankfully the Corps is letting it fill up, a little over 7' under full.
