Today I took our 25 ft cruiser out when the tank read empty and cruised around for while And then went over to a club and after going there for about an hour or so i decided to bring it in for the night. As I pulled up to the boat house the engine began shaking and thats when I knew that all cylinders were not fireing and that I was running out of gas. Sure enough when I entered the boat house the motor cut off. So i went and got the five gallon jug and pored some gas back into the boat oh and by the way it has an 85 gallon tank. After 3 attemps the motor started up on what sounded like two or three cylinders. While the engine was running it sounded pretty smooth. I decide to put into throttl only mode and rev up to about 2500rpm. When I did this the engine would run smooth then it would shake and drop about 200rpm then it would go back to sorta smooth then really smooth where it would gain 200rpm. So all in all I would adjust the throttle to 2500 rpm then it would drop to 2300 rpm then back to 2500rpm and then to 2700rpm.

The boat was repowered in august with a 2008 383 MPI mercruiser engine 6.2 it has about 35hrs on it.

I'm guessing that you sucked crap from the bottom of the tank & it is now in your fuel injectors......:(

Did you check the fuel filter for water or trash?
Those fuel pumps also don't like being run dry. It destroys them.

Why on earth would you risk taking a boat out on an empty tank? Seems extremely foolish.

I made sure that where I went i could get back on the extra five gallon jug I had in the boat. I have my fuel consumotion down to a science I estimated that before I left that I would probaby run out of gas as I pulled into the boat house. Sorry I should have mentioned my reserve fuel.

Ayuh,........

I guess ya shoulda threw that 5gals. into the tank Before you left,..........

I Agree with the above,......
A Near Empty tank has a tendency to send any,+ all the Crud in it to the rest of the fuel system,............

I'd start with changing the Fuel Filters,+ move on from there................

Sounds like water, trash and anything else. Service the fuel system and you might want to check the fuel pressure now that the pump ran dry. A drop of 2-3 psi will make a multi port run poorly.;)
