Hi all, I bought this 83 sea sprite with a 2.2 chevrolet motor. never owned one. looking for any thoughts on this boats? enough power to get a skier up? top speed? gas hog? i have always owned outboards. another thing, this boat was totally rebuilt end of last summer motor wise, new impeller. i paid 1.300 for it, sound about right? got it from a good friend of mine interior is a 7 on a scale of 10. appreciate any thoughts, thanks

To begin with, there is no such thing as a 2.2 Chevy motor!!!!

What do you have, really? Merc, OMC, Volvo, PICTURES?

it is a 4 cyl 120hp chevrolet motor has a mercruiser tag on the the outdrive. title to this thread could me more correct, not sure what i bought. thanks

certainly NOT a gas hog- doesn't get any better than that
pull a skier? well, we don't even know what this boat is...if it's a 28' cabin cruiser, then no... if it's a 16 or 17 footer, then keep the load light, and if it runs well and if the hull isn't waterlogged it should pull a skier ok. You might want a ski prop - 2" less pitch than the prop that puts your WOT speed at 4600

had the same in a 19 foot fish and ski. 3500 lbs loaded.
great motor. 17 prop
1t wont pull a 275 lb beginner out (with 6 guys in the boat), but just about everyone else came out ok.

my boats sop speed was 37 mph (approx) unloaded, flat glass, cool morning.
great gas milage.
they use that motor to push big house boats here.

as long as its reliable (no issues) it should do just fine for family boating.

Actually they did build one for a few years, but you'll never see one in a boat. 89 - 91 I think
