Re: Now I have problems

I mis stated or didnt talk - s-l-o-w enough

when I grounded I drifted into shallows TO A BEACH - on purpose - I was NOT going fast but really SLOW

with the motor partially raised ( above the bottom of the pontoons so it could NOT have hit bottom )

THE ENGINE DID NOT STALL

when I was ready to leave the beach I pushed the boat out -
to deeper water - the depth finders ( I have two of them ) said there was 4 and 6 ft under the boat - I started the engine and started to accelerate -- I was going NO faster than 3000 rpm when the engine just started to rev
and NOT push

As stated in previous posts I have had nothing BUT trouble with this engine

had to rebuild the carbs when it was only 2 month old - and with only 5 hours on the engine

Had to replace a vro pump ( said it had a hole in the diaphram )

had to replace the steering cables ( said they corroded ) - the boat has never sat longer than 1 week without at least a short jaunt

developed a fuel line leak

Now howe am I responsible for ALL of those - the engine is under 3 years old and less than 200 hours on it - has been serviced as recommended

capebill,There are several different reasons why a driveshaft spline could fail.Grounding prop, underwater obstruction, overpropping, gearcase failure, aftermarket props whose hubs are not specifically designed to break loose before overstressing the driveshaft, and last and probably least likely is manufacturing defect,Everyone here is just trying to get the most information possible in assisting you with your problem. How many RPM's was the engine capable of on the back of your toon before this problem arose?should be 5500-6000.Any less is overpropped.

OB

I did not run aground

read the posts

I grounded myself intentionally with the motor raised ---

Get a life

That was really uncalled for yet I still will assist in any way I can.If you want help with anything in life you need to treat people with more social graces than a rattlesnake. It certainly isn't my fault that your engines driveshaft failed.

ob -- you have been more than helpful even in the face of the remarks. We have all tried to help -- he doesnt want it. He wants to vent --- and thats OK, he has a right to his opinion. And I have the right to not care anymore.

This is a test...How do you strip drive shaft splines without hitting anything? Answer...Rapid shifting at high rpms from forward to reverse. That is the reason OMC commercial engines had more splines on the drive shaft.

That pontoon boat's 70 should have spun the prop hub or eaten the al prop a LONG time before stripping splines...even on the "domestic" version. Something is wrong here. Is that 70 a post OMC version?
