Re: NY Saltwater license

What's not fair is that the fee/tax will go into NYS general fund with a portion used to enforce this regulation to agin enhance the general fund.
What's unfair is to tax us for God Given Resources.
What's unfair is that this money will not be used to enhance fishing.

Your not seeing the forest thru the trees.

It's not about the money, it's not about enhancing the fisheries. Fisheries are being closed based upon flawed assumptions of effort and catch. Unless everyone is accounted for and data collected, the fisheries could very well be shut down completely and there will be no fishing to enhance.

When was the last time you where surveyed by fisheries management about your fishing habits and success?

I can't speak to what NY is doing with their license fees. I'm a 20 year USAF veteran and I'm okay with having to pay a modest fee to enjoy recreational sport fishing. In Florida the public and private sectors joined forces to promote the Florida Marine Fisheries Enhancement Initiative. We need to successfully manage our resources so everyone can enjoy fishing.

As someone mentioned above... I was just trying to point out an entitlement the we as members of the Armed Forces were given by the state.

We fish mainly fresh water in central Florida but do hit the gulf coast flats for reds when we can on my buddies Keywest. Also fish off the dock of a relative's house in Crystal River. We've caught reds in the canal she lives on that leads out to the flats.

NYS took the Fed request to create a registration to the next level. They decided to use it as income. The did a bait and switch with the accounts as soon as the state law was passed. None of these proceeds go to any kind of enhancement or research or any of the promised benefits. All will be used to pay DEC salaries.

To this I say "$%&* you Albany !!!" " You want it? Come find and catch me." I say this as I am waving my naked butt toward the governor and legislators, for them to pucker up and kiss it.

I would pay double the current license fee, gladly, if even 10% of it went to improving our marine habitat.

Rich Johnson is a local Long Island fisherman. He hosts a radio show dedicated to fishing, as well as bulletin boards and web services to teach about fishing and just enjoying the water.

His site keeps us abreast of alot of laws, regulations and such. He provide info on how to fight this.

Most statistics are simply made up.

Speak to any expert statistician and they will probably tell you that they can make the numbers show whatever they want. (I am not a statistician but I have consulted and worked with a few.)
