I don't want to stereotype, and it might just be my part of the country, but why are wakeboard boats always overloaded with frat boys blasting the speakers on the tower and just cruising around the marina getting in everyone's way? (Boy I sound old and cranky don't I?)

I don't know which is worse, them or the jet skiers. Of course any renter is right near the very top of the list.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

ive had more problems with bass boats, and fishing boats in general then with any skier or wakeboarder.

most recently, my buddy was in the water. we had the flag up, he had just fallen down. bass boat coming up towards us. no way he couldnt tell we had a person behind us(we are as far to one side of the channel as possible, leaving 200 yards of open water) the bass boat proceeds to go on the inside of us, using the 10 feet between us and old dock pylons.

Agreed a lot of the bass boats seem to think they own the lake around here. They have many times come within 50 feet of my boat or fallen skier at WOT 50+ MPH when there is 200+ yards of space b/w me and the shore. I am going to have words with one in particular if I see him again. The Vault drink bass boat on Lake Lanier passed by my wife and my boat at 60+ MPH bouncing of the waves within 30' of us when there was 1/4 mile between us and the shoreline. I have speakers on my tower and use them when some is wakeboarding, but I do not go through a marina blasting music.

But their are always crazy drivers out especially a boat pulling a tube. I have a few boats that I stay away from when they are pulling a tuber.

if we're bashing on stereotypes....tubers are right up there with jet fleas. something about both of those strips people of their brains. zipping around in cirlces, woo boy that's some fun. lol

faster than the speed of light bass boats, always on the rush to get to a spot and sit and wait for fish. reminds me of driving down the road...people racing to be the first at the next stop light, ok.

the group of frat guys with nothing but beer and testosterone is not exclusive to wakeboard boats. those guys are always a potentially good show, even if they're just on a pontoon boat.

oh wait...pontoon boats, the living room on the lake crowd. those guys....well, i guess pontoon boats are pretty harmless. i don't have a complaint, but i've got my eye on you. it's only a matter of time, lol.

Lol, good stuff. Unfortunately, jerks don't stick to one kind of boat. I've seen them on everything from the jet fleas to the houseboats. Same attitude, different vehicle. I watched what I thought for sure was going to be a T-bone crash at the lake this past weekend. A pontoon boat (yep, they're bad too, lol) cut off a ski boat next to us and it was so close I actually thought they had hit. Luckily they were doing around 20mph or it would have been carnage. We also had a fish n' ski split between us when we were 50ft from our friends taking pics of their kids while they were tubing. If the kids would have fell they would have been chopped up by the idiot racing up from behind.. This was all on a 10,000 acre lake with plenty of room. Inconsiderate folks are everywhere.

A little jealous, are we? Bass boats are by the far the biggest pain in the asses that I have seen. They are pests always in the way, whether it be in the water or at the ramp.

Only problem I had with wakeboarder last trip to the lake was a tremendous amount of envy as they flew by our 14 foot jonboat with their big v8 boat playing "Tuesdays Gone with the Wind".

Biggest problem I have at the lake are the Jet skis really, Id love to have one but damn, they go everywhere. The skiiers and wakeboarders stick to the big water, but the jetskis like to ride into the smaller parts of the lake, where Im trying to fish without getting washed out of the water.

I'm tempted to bring my AR-15 M4 for the next time I see a jet skier doing donuts ten feet out from the loading ramp on a busy day.

Seriously, what are they trying to accomplish?

Wow! I have not seen this kind of acrimony for someone else that enjoys the same hobby as I do since I was into mountain biking. This reminds me of the road bike versus mountain bike feud!

Peace!

Everyone look at sickwilly's avatar! In it he's blowing by someone within inches!! He's the one we all hate! Attack! ;)

Personally, I hate the ones with working boats that are having fun on the lake rather than rebuilding it from nothing in their garage. Evil people!

We usually go down to the river full of wakeboard boats and so far 99% of the people there have been very courteous of others. Even the jet skiers.

I get to see it all since I am a mountain biker and road biker that likes to ride a recumbent (talk about social stigma).

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

My biggest aggrivation with boating are jet skis, bass boats are pretty binconsiderate folks too (in general). By far the worst for me is the "lower social class" people, to put it nicely, that hang around the public launches oggling anyone who pulls up, getting in the way on teh docks, throwing fishing lines all over behind your boat when you're launching, etc. Launching/recovering into an unprotected river with a strong tide is enough to deal with without those inconsiderate clowns getting in the way. I mean honestly, is it that hard to pull in your lines, step out of the way, or fish off teh other side of teh dock for 5-10 minutes while I get my truck backed in and boat on the trailer?

Don't get me started on this one... I thought that buying a boat meant that I'd be able to escape that crowd temporarily. Boy was I wrong - they're everywhere! Heck, I've even seen some of 'em with "boats"!

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

I like the lakes with PWC / speed days and speed restriction / fishing days makes avoiding some of the a-holes a bit easier.

For the most part I stick with inshore / nearshore stuff in our big pond, out there not much concern about the PWCs, wakeboarders or bass boats but one must always watch out for the big power boat guys who bear down on you at full tilt and can't be bothered with putting down their alcoholic beverage to chop power or change course slightly to avoid splitting a bunch of small tin boats fishing at anchor.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

We have the average count of knuckleheads on our local lakes and it's just not limited to wakeboarders, jet fleas (sorry it just makes me laugh), basser dudes, toons, etc... If I see an idiot out there I do my best to avoid them and note the registration number and boat. If they do it twice and its a basser dude, I'll catch them fishing on a tourney day and do a just under plane pass near them and spook that trophy winning bass. ;)

If its wakeboarder I steer clear always cuz there is a person in the water and just call my buds down at the marine patrol.

Luckily most jet skiers keep their distance since the marine patrol really cracks down on them

Fortunately we have a lot of water and it never really gets that crowded to where someone's day of fun intrudes into another person's day of pleasure.

On the river I boat on there are a fair amount of cruisers running almost on plane. Either way their wakes are big enough that you gota be acutely aware, but come on, either get on plane or put along at off-idle. I've caught air more than a few times off cruiser wakes. Tug wakes are another to watch out for. Tall and sharp. Once my buddy was driving and clearly didn't understand not to back off throttle when approaching a 3'-4' wall of water. He got the idea from my frantic yelling, but a little late, got a bit of water over the bow on that one. Just part of boating on the river I guess.

On our section of the Illinois there are three main beaching areas. Usually 15-25 boats at each on the weekend. My boys have learned some words that they should not use........

PEOPLE have some common courtesy. If you are hanging out at the beach, DON'T take your kids tubing back and forth in front of it. Move down the river tube and than come back.

Re: Obnoxious wakeboarders

I don't mind the wake boarders since I like to watch them and think of my younger days before wakeboards when kneeboarding was the 'in' sport. My problem is the massive waves they throw off do to their balast systems. This gets annoying on the smaller lakes when you can't escape or find a peaceful spot. I would also say that I am annoyed I haven't seen a single talented one. I watch for the big move and they just do a little jump which is a waste of a nice Mastercraft. Yesterday a wakeborder being pulled behind a newer Mastercraft was being followed by a jetskier with a passenger video taping and all the guy could do was a tiny jump. He tried one flip but wasn't even close and never tried again. I have discovered that a lot of people own expensinve inboard ski boats but don't necessarily use them for their intended purpose. Ski boats must have something over I/O's since they are so prevelant. I have never been on one to know.
