new to me motor on initial startup runs great for few minutes then i get a single occasional beep sometimes.I am thinking about the VRO possibly going bad?? Do they just stop working or do they slowly fail? I like it and don't want to mix the gas and oil

For testing purposes. Disconnect the wires from the oil tank and start it up. If the beeps go away that's the prob. Next disconnect the wires from the vro and see what happens. That way you can narrow it down to what is causing the beeps.

When first turning the key to "on" the horn should beep once, to indicate it is working. An intermittent beep (every 20 seconds) means the oil tank is low on oil. A beep every other second means there is a problem with the oil pump. Disconnecting both these items is a valid (temporary) test procedure. Keep in mind the horn itself can also be the problem.
