I don't get this. My shift assist switch never worked and it turned out the switch was defective. I put a new one in but it still doesn't do anything.
When I look at the shift lever while operating the gear shift, the gear shift arm gets close to the top of the switch as you enter ahead but not closing it.
Also looking at it, there is no way it could close the switch just when shifting and only back to neutral. It could be mis-assembled or missing something for all I know.
The official book shows and says nothing about how this mechanism works.
Can anyone describe exactly whats supposed to happen? or have a picture?
