Odd 4 lug bolt pattern on old Lone Star King Commander trailer

I have an old 16? Lone Star King Commander V-hull (early ? mid 1950?s I believe) I?ve been working on that was given to us by wife?s step-dad. The boat has the original roller / tilt trailer with a 4 lug axle. Currently the standard for these rims is 4? between the lugs, but this axle / hub looks to be about 3.7? between lugs. The original rims were rusted out so her step-dad bought new 4 lug on 4? bolt pattern rims and drilled new holes so they will mount up. The tires on it now I believe are 4.8 x 8 and will again need replaced, so I may try to just buy new tires & rims if I can find them. The bearings will also need to be replaced, so if there's an option I could also replace the hubs when I do the bearings if newer 4 on 4" hubs will mount up to this axle.

My question is, does anyone know what this lug pattern is called & if those wheels are still available new anywhere, or if I could get newer hubs and replace those to?

You have a four-inch bolt pattern. You are using an "outside micrometer" to measure a center-to-center. Position the caliper so the inside of the caliper tips are better aligned with the center of each bolt.

Back in those days there were some 3 3/4" pattern wheels, Lone Star sold the wheel with the hub and bearings. It was an upgrade of the old one piece wheel and hub set up. It allowed easier tire changing. Some brands even had two piece bolt together rims.
The original tire was most likely a 4.00 x 8". Your probably better off converting that to modern hubs and rims, if the spindle length allows you to do so without any major hurdles. Some of those old wheels were even aluminum, as were some hubs.

If it were me, I'd get some modern hubs on there and matching rims. Just drilling out an existing rim isn't the same as having a factory countersunk hole for the lug nut to sit in.

i just went through the same problem. i have a pair of 3.75 rims and tires if you want i just upgraded my trailer, axles, and tires.

dkonrai, I would be happy to buy your old 3.75" rims / tires if you'd like to sell them. If the boat works out well I will upgrade my axle eventually, but in the meantime a used set of the smaller bolt pattern rims would be great!
