Say it aint so ! Say it aint so! Snow already.:mad::facepalm: Of course we could still see 90 again. As Jeff Foxworthy once said.. If you've ever worn a pair of shorts and a parka in the same day... You MAY be from Minnesota...:p Minnesota and Wisconsin is supposed to have the best fall colors this yr in over a decade. Dry weather, cold nights and warm days [sorta]. I am looking forward to a few river runs at the end of this mo, early next. Thats the predicted peak.. Man, the older ya get, the shorter the summers seem.

Monday it was well into the 90's and very humid. Wednesday night I had to turn the heat on in the car on our way home from dinner.
I think extremes like this ARE our normal! But we do have some beautiful weather to look forward to at least thu most of October.
Nothing like a very quiet cruise out on the lake on a brisk fall day when the leaves are all changing.

We're crazy for staying here! I think it was 2001, and I mostly remember because I went up to Forest Lake to look at a boat for sale. It was 92 degrees, my AC didn't work and it was stop and go on 35. Sweated my arce off. The next day we got about 11 inches of snow and it was below zero by the following morning. Hoping to get a Mile Lacs trip in but she's been a little chilly after the sun goes down.

This past weekend I was up at the cabin in NW Wisconsin and my son and I took the barge to the restaurant on the lake. I sat with all the friends and people from the lake on the patio having dinner and having drinks till late into the night (son went home with someone else).

The weather was probably the best of the whole summer. Warm, not humid, low mosquitoes, moonlight. It was heavenly. I took the pontoon boat home around midnight (approoximatley 4 mile ride) across the lake. It was one of those times which I could have gone forever.

those upcoming sunny October days up there are really spectacular and if it wasn't for the bleak November that follows, I would look forward to it.

Yeah, but add mosquito and road construction to the list too.

I can't wait for the fall river run for the changing of the leaves. It should be spectacular. I just hope it's not too cold. Last year was perfect, I could smell the dry leaves all along the river...what a great experience.

Soon I will be winterizing the boat. As long as you stay busy the winters don't seem as long.

Hey my eyes are still watering from all that forest fire smoke that blew down here! That was crazy. Walked outside on Tuesday and thought something was burning, find out its from a forest fire in Northern Minnesota.

My last river run will be on Saturday. Next weekend vegas, Sunday after is Bears game, Sunday after fishing in Wisconsin with a guide.........cant wait.

Close. 9 months of winter, 3 months of bad sledding......

The fire started out at 5000 acres and at least partially contained. Now it's 100,000 acres and they're talking about letting it go until it snows. That's still likely 2 months away for anything measureable! We've smelled it a few nights. Most of the smoke is east of us. It was crazy how Chicago got all that smoke. They even had warnings out because of it....

Without snowmobiles and then actually looking forward to snow and cold, I don't think I could make it through. 90 degrees and 30 degrees just hours apart hardly makes me think twice anymore. Air conditioning on Monday and fireplace last two days.

Re: OH NO ! A dusting of snow in parts of MN

I work for a company where we have a lot of people from India come over and stay a few years.. It is this time a year at which the new ones start getting worried. Just this morning in the elevator one of them was talking how cold it was this morning. Over the past 10 or so years I have been asked for advice on what it is like when it gets cold and for clothing recommendations.

This one guy who came over in July a few years back, comes up to ask me if the new jacket he bought would be appropriate for the winter. It was a nice fleece jacket. I told him it would get him to about November. I wasn't trying to scare him but you should have seen the horrified look on his face. He called me in November, when we had just had an early snow and cold spell (cold in November is not the same as cold in January), he just said "I am so scared".. he made it through and I think they go home and wear it like a badge of courage.

On the flipside, I don't think I could take their heat and crowds.

Our summer usually begins in the middle of April and doesn't end until the first week of November (not much exagertain), by the time Nov. gets here we're ready for a break.

I love getting out on the ice and socializing and sitting in a nice warm shanty jigging for whatever and looking out the window for a flag.

Every year this forum confirms for me that I could not tolerate living ANY further north than I do now. No way, no how.
