Yesterday I put 2 gallons of gas into my pretty-empty tank and took my outboard (Merc 650) out for a shakedown run. It kept dying after a minute or two. The bulb would be soft, so as long as we squeezed it fuel kept flowing and the engine ran. We must have restarted the motor 6 or 7 times in the half hour we were on the water.
I posted this last night, and was given advice about checking hoses, etc. Then I remembered that I had not added oil to the gas.
Would the lack of oil have caused the problem of gas not flowing? Or was sucking air just God's way of saving my motor from my stupidity?
