I have an oil cooler system, is it critical or can I just screw an oil filter directly to the block?

Re: Oil cooler

Why would you bypass it if you have it?

Anything to keep your fluids cool is a good thing.

Re: Oil cooler

The adaptor split and I'm having a hard time finding a new one. Just curious mainly.

Re: Oil cooler

Anybody?

OMC 460 with King Cobra. Just had the motor rebuilt and the crack in the adaptor was found during rebuild. The mechanic said his advice would be to scrap the oil cooler since I had a lot of metal shavings in the pan that might be trapped in the lines. He said the motor will run cool enough that the oil cooler isn't necessary.

The adaptor is expensive and hard to find (In stock anywhere) Will a direct oil filter do any harm or do I just need to watch the temp?

Have you checked an auto parts store, or even online at places like JCWhitney???

Re: Oil cooler

TransDapt makes one and summit sells it for $34.39
PN TRD-1313

It fits Chrysler and Ford V8's, it is 1 5/8" thick and has a 3/4-16 thread.
The inlets/outlets are 3/8" NPT

That stack of catalogs come in handy once in a while.
