I bought a 2-stroke OB and found the same thing. To my surprize I also found the motor was slick as a whistle inside, one of the rods was in a million pieces, and there was a big hole in the side of the block. Guess that's why he was happy to accept $20 for it....LOL. Guess I'll look closer next time.
Does your turn over smoothly? Have you run it yet?
First off, I assume its a 2-stroke OB or mixed gas would not be in the discussion. Sooooo, look and see if it has an oil tank. If its an oil injected motor the gas wouldn't be blue. If thats the case, murky brown gas indicates contaminated old gas, just before it turns green. If indeed its a premix motor, dump the gas and get some fresh before you attempt to start it.
I have never seen 2-stroke oil that wasn't blue...at least not in the last 40 years. Maybe somebody else has...
