Oil reservoir tank

I've found what looks to me to be an oil reservoir tank in a cubby at the left stern of my Starcraft. I've never seen such a thing but I'm assuming it's there to support use of a 2 stroke outboard (for oil premix). I have an onboard fuel cell (not sure what size it is) and I'm assuming that the reservoir is in series with fuel feed so my engine will get proper fuel/oil mix. Anyone else have this setup? Any advise on how to flush out the onboard fuel tank? Do I need to take the floor(s) up to check stringers or anything? Some of you have seen the pics of my boat. To be honest....I'm not sure I wanna see anything bad or rotted but would rather know now and fix it then get my family on board only to find we're going swimming whether we like it or not lol. If anyone can tell me how that oil tank works in conjunction with the fuel tank, I'd sure be grateful!! thank u!

If you have trim tabs or hydraulic steering or Hydraulic trim you also can have a reserve for them my boat does for the trim tabs. and I have one for the oil injection mounted on the transom in the rear of the boat. check if its blood red its transmission fluid ant thats for steering or trim.

no trim tabs on this boat. I have Teleflex steering which is nothing more than mechanical rack and pinion. This reservoir definately has engine oil in it. It's not red and it's got a suction bulb at the transom. A fuel line runs along side of it. If it's tranny fluid....it's VERY VERY nasty lol. I was wondering how I was gonna run a 2 stroke outboard on this boat with it having an internal tank. I figured I was gonna have to find a spot to mount my fuel tank but after poking around and finding this oil reservoir, I figured it was designed that way to mix with fuel. Again...no hydraulic anything on this boat. Fact is, I've been looking at aftermarket trim tabs for it also. We'll see what happens. I will post a pic of the tank after the snow melts off the covers.

Sounds like your oil tank. If you follow the hose coming off the tank you'll sfind that it runs directly to your motor.

Depending on what type of motor you have the hose will run into a seperate metering device that injects the oil in the fuel lines running from the fuel pump to the carbs (Merc) or it will run to the fuel pump and be mixed within the fuel pump housing (Evinrude/Johnson).

Thanks, Ding.......I am running a '74 'Rude 85 hp. I've never even bother to look at the fuel filter housing to see if it's designed as u say. I'll have to take a peek at that. So I'm assuming that the hose off of that tank connects to the fuel filter and automatically feeds oil into fuel using engine vacuum as suction source. Makes sense to me. Same way the motor gets it's fuel...vacuum. Good deal!! I was afraid I'd have to have my external tank mounted OR...spend $$$ and get a 4 stroker!!! I want to have alot of fun with this boat. I'm gonna do an album of it's restoration and share it with everyone if that's ok. Maybe someone will even come up with a killer idea on something and wanna share it. I REALLY like this boat and have alot of aspirations for it and hoping it all works out!! Thanks Again!!

Does it look like this? Mine has oil in it that is red.But as far as i know its the oil injected resevoir.

It looks EXACTLY like that. The cap says "oil" on it. I have no trim tabs nor has there been any trim tabs on it. I'm going to put some on it when $$ allows because I have no trim/tilt on my outboard ('74 85 hp 'Rude). It's all manual tilt. By the way Fish n Gear....I browsed thru your "restoration" album last night....lots of work but looks like u have a GREAT foundation to start with. "thanks dad" is right on the $$$. I got my Starcraft for free from a local boatyard that apparently couldn't sell it since it needs work and there was no motor or trailer. I had a 17' open bow Steury collecting dust that I had purchased a trailer for but lost interest in it cause when I bought my house it was abandoned there and once I got it restored enuf to fish in, I found I couldn't register it w/out checking with the previous owner and either retrieving title for it OR getting a notarized letter from him/her releasing their interest in it. This Starcraft came around and I wanted it...mostly due to different style and....lol...."title in hand". I don't know if u've seen pics of it or not but that is my winter project. So anyway....yes my oil tank looks just like that. Thanks for replying. Good luck with ur projoect.

Right back at ya Chris. The way you were describing it sounded just like it.Yes i have alot of work ahead of me. So much to learn.Good luck with your project Chris.Yes i have seen the pics and looking forward to following your project. Going to be a nice boat when your done. Seems there are more people fixing up old boats than buying new? And from the prices i seen on new i can see why. I would not buy new today.Having a payment on somthing you can use only half the year if lucky.
