Went outside to put a new slave solenoid on my 2000 Merc 3.0 engine. Ten minutes job, right? After disconnecting the battery, I disconnect the wires from the solenoid and then get a 7/16 socket and begin to loosen the 2 nuts holding the solenoid on. That's when I notice I'm getting no where fast.

Ok, get a flashlight and then see 2 brass nuts behind the electrical mouting plate that needs to come loose. Only thing is, the mouting plate has to be loosened enough to get a open-end wrench in there to hold them. No problem, just loosen up the electrical mounting plate, right?

After studying on it, it appears the 2 star-headed nuts that's holding the coil on are the ones I need to loosen up, but ...... I tried a 12 pt 7/16, 3/8, and 10 mm but none fits so I'm "assuming" I'm going to need a star socket ......but what size?

I bypassed taking a nap this afternoon just to try and get the sucker on .... man that sucks.

Thanks Rodbolt...........apparently an 11mm socket was in the slot where my 3/8 should have been......that did the trick.
