Re: Old Evenrude four fifty four

Thanks F R, that photo is awesome!

I know, the cowling was like that when I got it and it appears that someone left a can of tar or some black stuff on top of it and then the sun baked it on there. Should I try and get it off or look for another cover, any idea's, etc?
It also missing one snap cover for the cylinders/plugs, so I need one of those too.

Later, Im going to have to post good photos of the boat in the Larson section for info on the boat itself.

Thanks for your help everyone!

.... :)

Re: Old Evenrude four fifty four

Ok Joe, here is the additional numbers off the motor to help date it 58-59.

S/N # off motor says # 50514-04207

The little round plates next to motor on the casing say # 305687

carb # 37713

Its says 50hp at 4000 rpm

I pulled the plugs out last nite and they are clean as a whistle.
50:1 fuel mixture ratio then?

It would be nice to get a copy of the owners/operators manual for this motor.

Thanks

Re: Old Evenrude four fifty four

Thanks F R.

I tried to pm you, but it isnt working for some reason?

Ive been doing a lot of reading on older threads today and your comments about the water pump/impeller, fine tuning of the magneto and the carb kit to improve fuel consumption. All very impressive reading! I think that we will do the compression test first, then if all is well, do the impeller/wtr-pump rebuild (dont want it getting hot), run it and then later the carb kitnmods.
Im ordering one fo those owners/operators manuals from the site you listed.
Your comments are very much appreciated to a newbie on a budget like me, thank you.
