this is a AQ120B/270 1980

Re: old fuel

Sure it could be the fuel.
More likely if you don't use up a tank a year, you may have a problem. With todays ethinol fuels, you coud have worse problems. The fuel CLEANS the tank, and lines, and moves all that nasty gunk to the carb and fuel pump, unless you have a proper fuel/water seperating fuel filter (10 micron) installed.
You wouldn't believe the number of outboard carbs on 4 strokes I have to rebuild each week. Even went to needing (and buying) and ultrasonic cleaner for those 4 stroke outboard carbs due to the small passages.
It's killer on all carbs without filters.

Could be bad fuel, and/or carb, and/or plugs, and/or wires, and/or cap and rotor, and/or points, and/or.......

Re: old fuel

do you know what the tank is made of? ours is having issues becuase its a fibreglass tank and the fuel eats it, sending resin and chucks or glass up to the carbs. ran horrible, untill we hooked up a jerry can with fresh fuel.... Now we hae to figure out what to do perminantly.. LOL

Re: old fuel

the tank looks like a poly tank may just be plastic? it is a 1980 glasply if you know what they used, and the jery can is a good idea im going to try that in the am! that may cut down on the per weekend work load lol

Re: old fuel

yeah, we use the type for small outboards and stuff with the primer bulb and all, just attach the hose to the end of your filter, and prime the bulb like you would on a kicker.. then go through normal starting procedure

Rebuild the carb, don't just spray it with some cleaner, it won't make a difference.

Replace the tank before you start dumping gas into the bilge

Poly IS plastic :D
