i have noticed a few old threads coming up..... i think i have found out why.

on the bottom of the main forum....below the birthdays. is another subject listing......this will take you to another category listing.....click one....and you get a thread that may be from 04.

is there a way to show active/non active threads on that list?

Only by locking them I think...;)

Re: old threads

i agree tim.....i read the donations post....

we are allways going to have the newbs hitting search and not seeing the date.....(i mean really....we all have been caught with an old thread.:p)

but i noticed that random thread generating device....:D, was taking you to anything on the subject, regardless of the date....that is good for archives....but if the new poster does not understand.....they will hit reply every time.

locking would take years.....also it would be really hard in the restoration section....as a lot of threads can go two or three years....so those cannot be locked.

thats why i was thinking of an "active" or color code for anything over 6 months.

Re: old threads

I've learned over the years to choose my battles wisely. I try to refrain from stressing over anything, especially "little annoyances." It hasn't worked, for me, as well as I'd like.

If you think about it, though, sometimes, when an old thread is replyed to, for lack of understanding, it may rehash a really good point. It made someone think, and question, and offer input, and maybe a fresh perspective or insight. It may catch the attention of another experience lacking member and save them a lot of heartache, money, or maybe even their health, well being, or maybe even a life. Sometimes (quite often:rolleyes:) I read too deeply in to things. I cannot, however, remember a single time that it caused myself or anyone else anything more than a laugh or maybe even a disagreement.

Anyway, my point is, we're always going to have people making mistakes. As far as I'm concerned, it's perfectly OK. It's part of life and every one of life's aspects. Sometimes we have brilliant mistakes. It's simply one of the things which make this world go 'round.;)

iboats is extremely well run and moderated. Personally, I don't feel the need for "a perfect world." Not even in the iboats world.

I'm kinda' amused by someone responding to a thread asking for advice on something inconsequential in the first place, like "What color should I paint my outdrive?", and someone telling them, "Mercury Black", 7 years later.

No matter what color codes or "safegaurds" or time frames are added to a thread, there will be those who simply didn't pay attention. There are those who never read the forum rules; and those who simply don't put a lot of thought into things.

I try to never cross a bridge until I get to it. Sometimes they're best not avoided nor burned.:)

I think this may have been a little more than my .02...:D

Well said, veritas. Replying to a question about a choice of paint color made years earlier is both unnecessary and possibly an embarrassment to the responder, but no harm done, really. On the other hand, a comment on your current success with a given paint method suggested years before is still worth reading for both old salts and newbies. Alternatively, starting a new thread on the same "old" subject has its drawbacks too. - Grandad

It's all good, Grandad. I see nothing with need for repair nor prevention.:)
