Hi everyone, first post. Been lurking for awhile, but now that the weather is getting better I am getting more eager to start on my first boat restoration. It's a older Apollo 18' hardtop I believe the year is around 1977. Has a 190 OMC 302 Ford that is seized. I want it out of there so I can see the full extent of what I am up against. My question is. Do I have to pull the outdrive off before I can pull the motor? Or can I leave all that stuff that I know is good and yank the motor?

Second question, it seized due to previous owner leaving a little water in the manifold. One side cracked. Is there a upgrade I can buy that will replace the cracked manifold?

Third question, is there a reliable website I can either download or buy an owners manual for this motor and stern drive? I would love to have some reference for future maintenance and so on.

Before you start pulling the engine try to see if drive lift and the power trim if equipped is working. If they do not operate try to find the problem so that you can repair them while the engine is out.
You do not need to remove the drive, to protect the boot from tearing support the drive with a line from the stern cleats when you remove the engine. If the boot is bad it can be replaced without removing the drive.
Barr makes a center rise manifold that will be a good replacement for the OMC style.
Your engine has a 351 cam and heads with the 351 firing order so in the rebuild stay with that combination.
Someone on this site knows how to get the genuine OMC manuals.

Thank you for your reply's, hoping to just get some clarification though. So I can leave the leg installed, I just have to separate the motor from the intermediate housing, and it will just come out? I am supporting the leg just so it doesn't strain on existing mounts? My boot is brand new, I was assured when I bought the boat the tilt and everything worked. Sadly I started taking everything apart so testing it now is not possible.

Thank you for the links to manuals.

The intermediate isn't mounted to the hull. It's mounted to the engine, so you'll need to pull the drive. The intermediate will come out with the engine. Pullin' the drive should be a pretty fast and easy job anyway. They usually come off in less than 15 minutes.

Welcome aboard.

it is much much much much much easier to drop the outdrive (20 minutes on a stringer) and remove the motor with the intermediate connected. did I mention its easier to pull the drive.

Ok ya I will just remove the drive, it is fairly easy from all the research I have done. Again thank you for the replies.

By removing the complete engine and intermediate housing that will give you the advantage of checking out the tilt-trim system and run the engine on the floor to check it for leaks before installing it.
