If you worked flat rate and you needed to know if a no-start was caused by fuel issue-a little starting fluid verifies or eliminates very quickly. Ether is nowhere near as volatile as nitrous oxide and we run that in stock motors, too. We also use ether to clear a flooded engine. As I said before in other posts-everybody has their own way of doing things and diagnosing, but what you are telling people about starting fluid is just wrong. It can't fire in a cold gas engine until the spark ignites it-period. It can fire prematurely in a diesel engine, though, which is why we don't use it in those.
