Re: OMC 800 help!

That's what the manual is for! :p

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Welcome to Iboats.
First off, best done with 2 people. The drive has to come off. Then you get your butt up into the back of the engine and remove the screw from the pulley assembly that holds the steering shaft in place. You will have to play with the steering wheel to align the hole to access the screw. Once removed, you can pull on the steering gear and remove the shaft from the rear. CAUTION: there is a spacer and spring washer that will fall into the bilge unless you are there to catch them.

Seriously, without a manual, what I just wrote will be hard to understand.

Ditto to Kagee's lament. What's wrong with the steering cable, wheel and assembly that you need to replace it??

Re: OMC 800 help!

KaGee, i did buy a manual...and it dont say a word on how to remove the steering cables. Worthless Clymers manual, i should have known there motorcycle manuals suck as well. Thanks for your help.

the head unit, i guess that is what you call it, is froze up, and someone used a cable about 6 feet to long. seein how the steering wheel is froze up and the cable is way to long i wanted to find one the right size.

Will i have to find an omc set up or will another brand work?

TruCourse cables do show up occasionally on ebay. Be sure to verify your length. They are expensive so someone probably got a deal on one that was too long.

Re: OMC 800 help!

the last 2 digits of the part number are the length in feet. red cables or black cables are both fine. One doesn't replace the others like cobra shift cables..
