KaGee, i did buy a manual...and it dont say a word on how to remove the steering cables. Worthless Clymers manual, i should have known there motorcycle manuals suck as well.Thanks for your help. <br /><br />the head unit, i guess that is what you call it, is froze up, and someone used a cable about 6 feet to long. seein how the steering wheel is froze up and the cable is way to long i wanted to find one the right size. <br /><br />Will i have to find an omc set up or will another brand work?
<br /><br />Sorry, couldn't help myself. Welcome to Iboats.<br />First off, best done with 2 people. The drive has to come off. Then you get your butt up into the back of the engine and remove the screw from the pulley assembly that holds the steering shaft in place. You will have to play with the steering wheel to align the hole to access the screw. Once removed, you can pull on the steering gear and remove the shaft from the rear. CAUTION: there is a spacer and spring washer that will fall into the bilge unless you are there to catch them.<br /><br />Seriously, without a manual, what I just wrote will be hard to understand.
